am i at risk for rabies?
a cat i own that spends a lot of time outside scratched me enough to break the skin, and i'm rather worried. they've not shown any signs of rabies, but i've heard that the signs aren't always visible. the cat in question isn't vaccinated, i can't afford it, and there's a colony of raccoons in the area. am i at risk?

How did we get all the way from a cat scratch to racoon urine?
The person posting the question said she lives in an area with a colony of raccoons in the area.
It’s possible your cat could have been in contact with an infected raccoon. I would see a doctor asap and ask the question whether you need shots. Time is of the essence. Shots given too late don’t work. I had a bite by a barn cat that was not vaccinated because nobody could catch her. I immediately went to Emergency at the hospital. Glad I did because later another similar cat died of rabies, proving that it was present in our barn cats population.
