Anyone dealing with concurrent prostrate and kidney cancer (RCC)?
My husband was recently diagnosed with prostrate cancer Grade 2, he was given two options either radiation or surgery, pending his CT scan. He just got results back from CT scan last night and there is a high possibility of Renal Cell Carcinoma. From what we have researched, it seems this is considered a rare occurrence, ie. two concurrent findings. We are going to meet with the surgeon this Tuesday to find out what treatment options we have.
Has anyone here dealt with both Prostrate and Kidney cancer together? We are in Canada, the wait times for second opinions is months from now, please share if anyone was able to get a second opinion via virtual appointment with surgeons at Mayo Clinic. Thank you

With the nephrectomy behind us, we are once again tackling the prostrate cancer. Two options offered are either surgery or Stereotactic Body Radiation (SBR) Therapy, within the SBR we have two options either a 2 week procedure used with MRI, very specific or a 4 week treatment. We are inclined towards SBR vs. surgery, reasons being least invasive, high success rate, very close to results from surgery and decreased side effects.
Our question is, has anyone undertaken SBR therapy for their prostrate cancer, if yes, what were some of the side effects you experienced, was the overall process successful?
Any insight would be helpful, thank you in advance.
I had the low dose radiation treatment for prostate cancer completed February 2022. It consisted of 42 low dose treatments done five days a week. I had only mild side effects, mainly fatigue. At the time I started treatment my psa was 12.1; on my last blood test two weeks ago the psa was .9, so radiation was successful. I decided against surgery because of my age; I was 79 at the time. As I have posted before, I am now being treated with Keytruda immunotherapy for Kidney cancer, and I also had five high dose radiation treatments to stop bleeding from the malignant lesion. I opted out of total nephrectomy because of my age. So, for me radiation treatment of prostate cancer with radiation has worked out well up until now, and treatment for the kidney cancer has gone well.

@sv2024, which treatment protocol did you choose 2-week vs 4-week?
I had a total of 42 low dose radiation treatments done five days each week which was eight and a half weeks.
My husband has started radiation treatments - 20 low dose done five days each week ( 10 done, 10 more to go). So far, he has had no side effects other than some weakness. He is going to take a single dose of Triptorelin Pamoate 22.5mg injection (HRT). Did you get that shot as well? if yes, did you experience any side effects?
@sv2024, I'm tagging @ronsale to make sure they saw your question about Triptorelin Pamoate used to decrease testosterone in men with prostate cancer.
If I've calculated correctly, your husband is in the home stretch with radiation treatments, right? How is he doing?
Thank you and yes, two more rounds to go, Tuesday will be the last one. Overall, he is doing fine, he is feeling tired more than usual, however that could also be because he has had to travel everyday by train (45min) to get to downtown Princess Margarette hospital. He's never really used public transport, driving would be a nightmare, train is the best way to commute.
Outside of feeling a bit tired, he feels slight discomfort when urinating, he will get tested for any infection.
We were told that his PSA test will be scheduled after 3 months, that's when we will find out if the SBRT was successful.
He chose 4-weeks, 2 more days/treatments to go.
