Notolgia Paresthetica (itchy back)

Posted by itchy85 @itchy85, Nov 2 12:43pm

I've been suffering from this affliction for several weeks, and have tried all the recommended suggestions for relief, except to take gabapentin. Has anyone found that helpful, and at what dosage? I'm by myself, and am experiencing terrible itching across my back. It causes considerable anxiety and stress. Thanks for any info.

Itchy85, I personally would ask my doctor about taking an antihistamine. Also, there is Benadryl cream for topical itching.

I know this sounds silly, but sometimes, I can itch terribly from simply having dry skin. Curel lotion is phenomenal for dry skin if that is the issue. Do you have a family member or friend that could look at your back?

Praying for you and for this to go away.

Thank you for your suggestions and prayers. I'm looking into Benadryl creams, and an oral rout with oxycarbazepin 150 mg tabs. I'm alone w/o any help, and struggle with cream application . I have an appointment with a young dermatologist next week for his input. God bless,

This is a neurological problem to do with the spine as I have researched it. I use a 4% lidocaine spray or roller which helps alot.

As I have researched this for awhile, it is not a skin problem by a spinal nerve problem. Dermatologist have been no help. My physiatrist suggested lidocaine patches. Since I cannot put them on my back, I have found that 4% lidocaine spray and roller have helped alot.

It is very easy to spray your back. I have had rotator cuff surgery on my right and am easily able to do it. Suggest trying.

Talk to a dermatologist about Dupixent injections. This has totally cleared up my eczema and the terrible itching.

Glad it helped you. That is what my next plan is if the Prednisone doesn't work.
