Local providers for fluroquinolone toxicity syndrome

Posted by marybloom60 @marybloom60, Nov 2 3:15pm

My daughter has recently moved to Rochester, Minnesota, and is covered by Mayo Health insurance through her husband. Is there a physician or holistic health provider that treats the physical and mental health symptoms of fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome that accepts Mayo Insurance?

I found a website for OrthoCure Clinic in the St. Paul area. They advertise comprehensive treatment of this disorder. The physician is Dr. Ron Hansen. Does anyone have experience with this clinic and providers?

Welcome to Mayo Connect. Mayo Connect is great support group, but we are not able to answer questions about Mayo employees insurance coverage. The best place to find out what provider would accept your daughter's insurance is to call the insurance carrier. Or if have other questions about benefits, she should contact Human Resources. If interested in specific non-Mayo provider, have her call that providers office directly to ask about insurance.

There is a discussion on fluoroquinolone-toxicity in the Neuropathy group that might provide additional information or suggestions.

Thank you for responding. I'm disappointed that the group is not able to respond about mental health providers in the Mayo network that are familiar with treating the mental health symptoms of this condition. The anxiety, panic attacks and depression are profound. Is anyone in the group able to share the names of local providers that work with complex trauma/ptsd or provider emdr treatment?

@marybloom60 I am unfamiliar with the mental health symptoms associated with fluoroquinolone toxicity syndrome. I did some research with Google Scholar and I did find any information concerning the physical symptoms associated with this syndrome but limited information about mental health symptoms. The mental health symptoms are included in the article below as Effects on the Central Nervous System. which included anxiety and depression. I did not find any mention of PTSD. Was your daughter previously diagnosed with PTSD?

EMDR is one of the treatments for PTSD and it's possible that a mental health provider (psychologist or social worker) in Rochester or Mayo Clinic offers this treatment. Trying to locate a mental health provider who offers a particular modality of treatment often takes some digging.

Here is a website that might help.

Yes, my daughter has a complicated dynamic with prior ptsd and some asd traits. She is a very intelligent, educated person but due to being blind sided by this severe reaction to one dose of levoquon two years ago, is very weary of medical professionals. Trying to find a provider who would understand that this syndrome is real and "not all in her head" as the article you shared explains.

@marybloom60 Thank you for your response. That clarifies your initial posting that started this discussion. While the floroquinolone toxicity syndrome you mentioned likely added to and exacerbated her mental health symptoms it is now apparent that some of her symptoms precede in time the antibiotic that she was prescribed two years ago. This would be important and helpful information for the provider that she sees.

Might you or your daughter look at the Psychology Today website I posted above? She may find a psychologist, counselor, or social worker that can assist her.

Does she currently see a mental health provider in Rochester? Or has she seen anyone in the past who could refer her to someone in Rochester?

REPLY

She had seen a past provider that prescribed an antidepressant that just made the symptoms worse. I am familiar with Psychology Today, but the information is so general on that forum I am concerned about a bad match.

@marybloom60 You are writing here as her mother. I'm wondering what your daughter has explored, thus far, in Rochester and at Mayo Clinic.

@marybloom60, you must be very concerned for your daughter and I think you are right to seek out comprehensive multidisciplinary care that considers both the physical and mental health concerns as a team, like they do at Mayo Clinic. Mayo Clinic experts offer comprehensive evaluations to assess psychological and physical concerns. If your daughter would like to seek the help of Mayo Clinic experts, she can self-refer. Use this link to get started http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

To confirm her health insurance is accepted at Mayo Clinic, please contact Mayo Clinic Insurance: https://www.mayoclinic.org/billing-insurance/contact-us

Currently, Dr. Linda Hasadsri is conducting research into fluoroquinolone toxicity and may be a provider to inquire about.

I encourage your daughter to contact the appointment coordinator (http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63) or you can submit the form on her behalf. They will walk you through everything and you can ask questions along the way.

Thank you so much for your response. I am hoping to share with my daughter so she can feel some hope that her unique issues can be addressed and she will not feel overwhelmed by the process of finding a provider.
