Finasteride tablets for hair loss

Posted by lilbit123 @lilbit123, Jul 9 7:31am

Last year I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism. Since then I’ve had severe hair loss. I’ve tried what feels like everything but I keep losing my hair. Recently my dermatologist prescribed my Finasteride for hair loss. She told my it’s given to men but since I’ve had a hysterectomy it would be safe to take. I’ve done some reading on it and it’s a little concerning. Has any other women tried this and did it help? I’m 2 months in and still losing hair. It said it could take 3 months for men to see a change.

Gelatin "capsules" or just plain Gelatin helped with my hair. Good Luck 😉

I suffered from hair loss as well. My dermatologist at the jacksonville campus prescribed me oral minoxidil and ketaconizole shampoo. I take the minoxidil daily and use the shampoo three times per week.

The other days, i wash my hair with AVEDA shampure shampoo.

I have been doing this for four months and am seeing amazing results. A real blessing at 52 years old.

Also seeing thickening of eyebrows and additional eyelash growtth.

I'm glad to hear you have had good success with the minoxidil-I have been taking 1.5mg minoxidil for about 9 weeks now with somewhat "stranger" results. I was diagnosed from a biopsy with "telogen effluvium" which supposedly you don't lose all your hair, and it's basically a cycle of shedding and re-growth due to a shock or stress to your system, and also I'm sure some genetics thrown in. I lost so much hair. So hard on the self-esteem. I do
currently have some hair coming back, but the shedding lasted so very long, many months. The hair coming back in is very very fine, breaks easily, and not very healthy looking. My dermatologist says this is normal and more healthy looking hair will follow. Does any of this sound like what you experienced? Also, can you please tell me what your milligram dosage is of the minoxidil you take? I could go up to taking 2.5 mg daily and wondering if that would help. Also, have you had any side effects from the minoxidil? I seem to now have some eczema patches on my legs and arms since all this began and wondering if it contributed to that. I am so glad to see some conversation about this and hope to hear from you.

With 5mg oral minoxidil, there is a side effect of facial hair. With 5mg Finasteride, not aware of any side effects. With Finasteride and ketaconozole, not sure much improvement, but also no negatives for me.

I’m taking a 2.5 mg tablet in the morning. I too suffered from shedding— dermatology said that was normal, and to not give up.

I had nausea and light headedness the first 3 weeks, it’s gone now.

Lastly, I’m on an antioxidant diet, which I think helps.

I would gladly try gelatin capsules. Is there a brand to ask for???

I had a dreadful work situation for a while & my hair did thin
but in general & once the stress was over my hair got fuller again.
This is spotty so I may continue biotin but will also
look into gelatin. Thanks.

Thank you! I will try 2.5mg, which I was a bit hesitant to do, but was what the dermatologist prescribed. I do try to eat a healthy diet, and do eat many of the antioxidant foods also.

I’m taking 1/2 of a 2.5 mg Minoxidil pill per day. I think the plan is to gradually increase it.
