Cancer risks of Tymlos
I am 62 and have osteoporosis. The doc suggested Tymlos and between side effects and risks of cancer I’m petrified to start this process. It is a huge leap for me to take something like this, I barely take aspirin or Advil. For those who have taken it, was there a huge benefit? Did the benefits continue after stopping or did it just buy you a little time with bone density?

@naturegirl15 That's fantastic no side effects!! So November is right around the corner so you'll soon have the results! Keep me posted if you can. I, too, am curious to see what the next step is to lock in any increased bone. Good luck with your Dexa results in November.
@windy shores Good to know. I'm feeling much better about the Tymlos now.
@yogagirl57 I will do that. Thank you.
As one who has had a horrific rebound effect from stopping Prolia and going back to Boniva, just be aware you basically can’t stop taking Prolia, ever. Make sure you know all the risks and are prepared for them if you do decide to stop. I am on Tymlos now and hoping to recover some of my rebound lost bone mass after 3 compression fractures in 4 months. I can elaborate if needed. Good luck with whatever you try! This osteoporosis is not for sissies!!
@jennirdh that's awful! Did the doctor warn you there may be a rebound effect? I started Tymlos yesterday. I wasn't told about any rebound effect with it, just that it's for either 18 months or two years, then you have to stop and can't go back on it again. If it builds back some bone density, but then it gets worse after, then it's just bought me a few years I guess. I wish I could go with something like Algae Cal, I felt a bit like I had the flu last night.
I will start tymlos on Monday and scared to death. I am 66 and very active. I started with osteopenia at age 46 with my right hip. Changed my food, eliminated all white bread etc and had no issues. Each bone density got worse and worse. Have no pain but scores are osteoporosis.
No, he did not mention rebound effect but I have to ultra something. I’ve been doing natural/ holistic but you cannot build more than 1-2% of density. I’ve been crying on and off for the past 2 months on what to do and I will try this and see how it goes! Not happy about it. I don’t even use aspirin lol just a few supplements. How are you doing?
Same here as far as being scared to death. My doctor said insurance only pays for a dex scan every two years so I could be doing this for 18 months or two years for nothing but not know it until the next scan.
I would suggest checking with your insurance company. They might cover more frequently if you are undergoing treatment. The worst they can tell you is that they will pay only after 2 years.
That's helpful, thank you. The doctor said not until 2 years, but can't hurt to check!
