Has anyone. Had any strange odors to their urine?

I have had my urine tested and there was no infection. I do not have pain. Only some slight urgency at times. It is also cloudy. It smells really terrible. And sometimes I detect the same odor when I have a bowel movement.

Do you eat asparagus? That can produce a really dreadful odour. Also Vagifem estrogen suppositories or a pessary ring can cause smelly discharge. Drinking plenty of water can help if strong smell is caused by dehydration.

@anet

Cloudy and urine that smells can be caused by many things. Few common reasons are:
• Dehydration:
• Urinary Tract Infections (UTIs): - which you have been tested for
• Diet: Certain foods, @leemoore13 mentioned asparagus, few others are garlic, lunch meats, beans, cauliflower, mushrooms, and spinach.
• Medications and Supplements: Some medications and vitamin supplements can change the odor and appearance of urine.
• Medical Conditions such as diabetes and kidney stones

I am glad you got tested for UTI to rule out that cause.

Articles I read said drink plenty of fluids and if does not clear up in few days, you should follow up with your provider.

Is this a new condition, and if so have you changed any medications or diet?

I cut back on the gabapentin and it is better. Now I just need to find something else for my neuropathy.

My liver enzymes are elevated. This has been for almost 3 months, it’s not because of alcohol or Tylenol. I also have bilirubin and the doctors don’t seem too concerned, but I am so tired and many times my right side hurts.

Hi, @caroljeans, and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. It seems you have a lot of symptoms to manage right now.

Are you also experiencing a strange odor with your urine, like @anet mentioned?

REPLY

Yes, I can’t even describe the odor. There is nothing comparable

Hi. @lorrieverrill. Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.

Wondering if your doctor or a nurse has a theory on why your urine has this odor? If so, what do they think it is?

REPLY

Sorry. They haven’t said

Anyone have elevated liver enzymes and dark urine. Trying everything to no avail.
