Update: Met my second opinion surgeon yesterday. Seems like a nice guy. Loved his PA, they both answered my husband and mine questions and made me feel like this is where I need to be. My surgery is scheduled for November 6th, so this week I have a heart catheter scheduled, carotid artery ultrasound scheduled, both legs ultrasound, PFT, chest x-ray and bloodwork. I think I’m doing ok. My parents of course are worried, my kids are worried, my husband is being a rock. Today I broke down cause I’m terrified to die. Guess this is normal. Soon this will be done…my doctor gave me a prescription for some Ativan and that is definitely helping.

All the best to you, it will be fine and this will all be an anecdote in no time, 5 years almost since my surgery and I feel great, you will too

This is very scary but I'm sure you'll come through with flying colors. Modern medicine is a miracle. I think we're all terrified. You're not alone. Heck, you have everyone on this site rooting for you.

Jenali, I know exactly how you feel. I just had my open heart surgery for my ascending aneurysm March 6. I was scared just as you are but was relieved to finally had made a decision. My surgeon was amazing and made me feel at ease. I am doing well and I am so glad to have this behind me. the recovery is a little rough but not nearly as bad as I thought it was going to be very little pain. I did cardiac rehab afterwards for three months and I continue to exercise several times a week. You will be relieved to have this behind you, you won’t have to worry about anymore. , my family and friends were very supportive. My husband passed 2 1/2 years ago and I was very scared to go through this without him but my children and friends were there for me. You will do fine as sounds like you have a very good support system , trust your doctors. And you know everyone on this site is rooting for you. You are not alone.
