How do you cope with Overactive Bladder/Urge incontinence?

Does anyone have suggestions on how to cope with overactive bladder and urge incontinence? Are there any meds that can help without causing unwanted side effects?

@mc10 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Having to get up at night to pee is a real problem, isn’t it? My husband installed a small motion detector light in the bedroom so I wouldn’t bump into things and fall. It works very well. You’ve also asked who should I see. You can start with your PCP so any physical causes can be ruled out. Your doctor can also provide medications that help. Or she might refer you to a urologist (a kidney and bladder specialist). It may be long journey but the end can be worth it!

@lindes

I am the same age you are, and I have to get up at night about every 3 hours. I will be seen by a pelvic floor physical therapist starting April 1st. I hope they can help me a little with getting a normal nights sleep.

I use to get up several times at night to pee but I did research on it and I found that taking desmopressin acetate o.1 mg TB 1 hour before bedtime solved the problem.

Take Desmopressin Acetate 0.1mg TB 1 hour before bedtime and that solved the problem for me.

Mayo Clinic Press has a book on Incontinence. It was a good informative read and offered lots of helpful tips.
