Glioblastoma cancer claims my wife.

Posted by boilerbob @boilerbob, Oct 14 3:12pm

My wife recently passed away after 17 months fighting Glioblastoma cancer.
I felt helpless not being able to treat and cure the cancer.
After 54 years of marriage, I'm alone and lost without my guiding light.
This is a cancer that must be funded so a cure can be found.

@boilerbob
I had several meningiomas over the last 23 years, so imagine my surprise to be diagnosed with a GBM this past March. Ironically, I have been involved in funding brain tumor research since my original diagnosis, chairing our local Walk for 15 years. YES! We must find a cure!

GBM needs more national visibility and attention to develop a larger and stronger push for finding a cure or growth stalling medication.

So very sorry for you and your family. I agree, there needs to be more focus on GBM. My brother is in his 10th month and we pray every day for a breakthrough treatment.

my prayers are with your brother. I very difficult being a caregiver and knowing you can't help your brother beat the cancer and stay with you long term.

Yes, it is very difficult but we will do our best for him.

Thank you for the helpful idea of the "to-do" list, which will give me things to do that keep my mind busy.
I have made one decision without waiting, our son and I promised Ellen that we would live close to each other and support each other with our anxiety disorders. I'm selling the house in Bismarck ND to move into an independent living facility 5 blocks from where our son lives in Seattle WA. Our son also lives by himself.
The sun has been shining in Bismarck and I've opened the shades to let it all come into the house and my life.
Thanks again for you support.

@boilerbob Wishing you the best during your move! Nice that you will be near your son. My wife and I also made a real estate decision before she passed away and it turned out to be a great one for us.

Back in the day, I worked a 14-state region and often visited Bismark. I always enjoyed those visits, especially in the autumn -- not so much in February 🙂

Strength, Courage, & Peace

You have my deepest sympathies, with your tragic loss! Words can’t express my wish and hope that medical science would, or could, alleviate the cruel suffering and pain, and threat of death, that goes with being diagnosed with glioblastoma! So many wonderful, talented, people have lost their lives, after much suffering, due to being diagnosed with glioblastoma! Perhaps a support group of family members of those who have passed with glioblastoma would be of some help to you, as you grieve, and mourn your loss! Know that over recent years a lot of research has gone into finding ways to fight this deadly disease! A number of years ago, a Doctor, who was chairwoman of the medical school, that my Son-in-Law graduated from, contracted glioblastoma, and subsequently died from it! She wrote a book about her journey, having this cancerous glioblastoma! Her husband was a Doctor, too, at a famous clinic, and, in her name, a significant research project was developed, where glioblastoma, as the main subject, was being intensively studied in the hopes of finding a cure and/or ways of improving the lives of those stricken with glioblastoma! Wishing you comfort and strength as you grieve!
