Hi, @pete555947 - I see that this medication has been used more commonly in Asia and Eastern Europe, as you were alluding to, and is not approved by the FDA at this time.
The most recent publication I found on Cerebrolysin is by some authors in China, found in the journal Medicine:
- Efficacy, safety, and cost-effectiveness analysis of Cerebrolysin in acute ischemic stroke: A rapid health technology assessment
https://journals.lww.com/md-journal/fulltext/2024/03290/efficacy,_safety,_and_cost_effectiveness_analysis.40.aspx
Another article appeared in 2022 in Journal of Clinical Medicine by some European authors, mostly from Romania:
-Role and Impact of Cerebrolysin for Ischemic Stroke Care
https://www.mdpi.com/2077-0383/11/5/1273
The latter journal article seems to call for high-quality confirmatory trials with a large number of patients and clinical and cost-effectiveness studies.
I'm tagging @madirdee @elle11 @steveschem, who may have some input to share on cerebrolysin from their research for themselves or a loved one, or from discussions with others.
@pete555947 - I saw that you mentioned you'd previously had a stroke. Are you looking into cerebrolysin? If so, what improvements are you wanting to see?
Hi and thanks for your reply. I had an ischemic stroke in October 22. I am looking to improve my left arm usage and my walking ability although I'm walking with how to cane or Walker and I haven't fallen because I have pretty good balance but my walking pace is very slow and probably appears to others is unsteady. I also was diagnosed about a year ago with polymyalgia rheumatica and I'm taking 2 to 3 milligrams of Prednisone daily which I've tapered down from 10 milligrams originally. I am trying to build my strength in my legs and get my left arm to have more range and get my fingers on my left hand working better. I look forward to reading the articles in the links that you sent thank you very much. I am considering seeking out cerebrolysin.
