Silent Reflux or LPR

Posted by cmdw2600 @cmdw2600, Jan 27, 2023

Has anyone been diagnosed with silent reflux or LPR? This is a condition where there is no heartburn, but acid makes its way to the throat. I have had a sore throat/throat irritation for over two years.

Would like to treat without PPI and do what I can homeopathically.

If you want a natural get with a functional med person. I’m using HCl to increase gastric acid with good results. I know it sounds counterintuitive but it’s not. Consider Reflux Gourmet. It’s spendy but good and all natural. Use it at night and elevate the head of the bed.

I've been on protonx 40mg. 22y's. Pepcid complet w. Got off 8 days ago. Trying to regulate w diet. Fish, chicken, turkey. Fresh fruits & veggies. Can veggies. I know our diet is cutting so much that we enjoy. It has to be looked at as our greatest resolution. Cheat one a week & you'll burn throat & intestines.

I found a couple forms of Reflux Gourmet on Amazon, such as gum and a paste that you eat. Which do you use and do you only take it at night (after a meal or befor bed)? Thanks.

It’s expensive so I use usually only at night unless I’m eating foos I think might cause reflux at other meals. More effective I’ve noticed if I that it that way. Probably with each meal is optimal. The gum is great as chewing gum increases your stomach acid. Contract to popular belief we need to increase our stomach acid as we get older. Again, a good functional medicine practitioner should be able to help.

I had esophageal ablation surgery three months ago. They put me on 2 doses of omezprazole, 40mg. After the tissue healed, I had no reflux or heartburn. Until last night. I had what you are calling silent reflux. We are on a long drive and I may have overdone it with some coffee.

You have had an ablation and still drink coffee?? I gave it up years ago, along with alcohol. If you are serious about getting better you may want to give up everything on the “do not eat” list, otherwise you are sabotaging your recovery. Barrett’s is not something I want to tangle with. 😉

Is it the oils in coffee or the caffeine that is the issue?
How about water filtered decaf ?

Coffee is acidic and has caffeine which loosens the muscle which allows acid to flow back up the esophagus. You can buy low acid coffee like healthwise off Amazon. It comes in decaf too.

Coffee has caffeine and is very acidic, which is a problem for those of us with this problem. I’m surprised your DR didn’t educate you about this and put you on a low acid diet. There is a “Gerd” diet. The next step after “Barrett’s” is potentially cancer, so I take this very seriously 😳
