Squamous cell carcinoma: How did this happen?

Posted by redroadbutterfly @redroadbutterfly, Oct 11 1:42am

I was just diagnosed with neck squamous cell carcinoma! Wondering how this happened since I have never been a sun bather and dark skinned Hispanic. This seems to affect fair skinned blue eyed peeps.

The needle biopsy made it worse and the next step is in 4 days going to an oncologist then waiting for a PET scan.

My question is heat application not good or is just icing for the lump best? Could a contrast of hot and cold be all right or not?

@mytime62, I can imagine your hesitancy to want radiation again. Were you able to tell your team that you'd like to hear about other possible treatment options? Have you found something that helps manage the pain until your appointment next week?

I’m taking Tylenol it helps, but I’ll be asking about something stronger, and other options, my mental is not good right now, because of the loss of my husband , and to throw this illness on top of all that, plus after he passed 6 months after I had to do dialysis, so I’m on dialysis, and now gotta deal with SCC, it’s a lot
