Recent kidney/bladder surgery at Mayo

I have no question at this point, I just want to share my success for inspiration!
A few wks b4 my surgery, the surgeon at Rochester Mayo pored over the 1,248 CT scan images, and after I had been told it would likely be a radical nephrectomy of my left kidney w the 2 likely malignant tumors there, he said he was 95% certain he could save the kidney!! And on Oct 14 that's what he did!! Kidney bladder surgery is NOT a walk in the park. I went into surgery w 1 IV and came out w 6 IVs and 2 drains. Surgery was open, not robotic, because of 2 tumors and risks of bleeding or bladder leakage; said he'd rather stop leaks or bleeding immediately w his hands as opposed to extracting robotics, making incision anyway, at which time a transfusion could be in order. Had no transfusion. Hardest thing was removal of residual blood drain plug. Was worse than any transitional labor I've ever been thru... I confess, I screamed several times and cried for 1/2 hr. BUT, the tumors were removed w good margins, I'm off the oxycodone as of Sun night. Still on Tylenol regimen and am on 40gram "no khyle diet" for awhile. Happy to do whatever. I have a second chance! I'm 68. Have heard this procedure ages you about 10 yrs, but vanity isn't part of me (I've earned every wisdom line). My sweet husband this morning said, "Well, there's a possibility you might look 68 but I married u 44 yrs ago for more than looks, and you're beautiful to me". Made me cry; he's a saint.
Best wishes to call of you...you got this, friends!

My heart is so full of gratitude, hope and joy. I've had literally hundreds of people praying and thinking good thoughts for me. I'm not overly religious, but I definitely have that feeling some people get when they have this kind of second chance: God's not finished w me yet. No I'm not gonna go join some crazy movement, not going to head to a church. My 'church' is between me and God. I am planning on doing some paying it forward if and when I can. I signed up for 2 research studies thru this, turned down 1. These people have gotten so good at this because people raised their hand. Probably won't help me, but very likely could make a difference for someone else's mom, daughter, Grandma, wife, sister.
Thank u for the congratulations.. I wish you all success too. Will likely report back w my followup scans, blood draw, urinalysis in 3 mos.

@gangcarotid1 I like that you are paying it forward and signing up for studies that might help others, even if they can't help you. We need more of that. Again, I think your surgical outcome is remarkable and I look forward to hearing about your follow-ups in the coming months. Wishing you all the best!
