Hoarseness was my first symptom as well which sent me to a ENT. He said it seemed my throat was messed up from acid reflux (I never felt it) as well and put me on PPI for 3 months. I also did research on diet and things and gave up some food that bothered me - tomatoes for sure. He also said together an endoscopy - which I did and lo and behold Barrett's. Luckily without Dysplasia - so that was good news. As I said I never felt like I had acid reflux but found that perhaps I have what is called Silent Reflux.. At any rate, I watch my diet, no longer take PPI's but an occasional Famotidine if I feel I have eaten something that might bother me. The books mentioned above helped me as well and have good recipes. I also have a raised pillow that it took some time to get use to but it helped. Good Luck!

I recently was diagnosed with Barrett with no Dysplasia. How I knew there was something wrong is belching. I belched just drinking water. I also had chest pains for the last two years. I went to a cardiologist and he ran many test and all was good. I had chest pains and left breast pain and even went to emergency room. No one could find anything wrong. Since I are for my husband who is fighting two forms of blood cancer everyone said it was anxiety. Thank goodness I mention belching to my doctors and the endoscopy found my issue. Does anyone else have chest pain with Barrett. I have never had food come up in my throat like others describe. I honestly have no clue what to eat or drink.

I had Barrett’s diagnosis in 2018. Don’t drink anything carbonated or booze. No citrus or vinegar products. Only drink water, 9.5 ph water, unsweetened almond milk which is alkaline. I only drink healthwise low acid coffee. No fried foods or fast foods. Eat grill or steamed chicken breast and fresh greens. Don’t eat 3 hours before bedtime. But the book the acid watcher diet off Amazon.

I can live with giving up various foods. I will miss my beer. My dad drank one beer a day which he swore by. He said it is good for the blood. He lived to be 96 and was very healthy. I did order the book and I will do better giving up beer. I have it a few times a week I add one bottle of water with an ultra light beer. I mix them together. I love the taste. Thanks for the info

Food coming up or heartburn is not a necessary symptom in the case of LPR, where the acid reflux symptoms can be sore throat, coughing, clearing the throat often, and etc. So, you probably have LPR. Research all the ways to reduce acid foods (no tomatoes, citrus, carbonated beverages), and no caffeine or chocolate (because they loosen the sphincter which keeps the acid out of the esophagus), no black pepper or spicy food, sleep with raised head of bed or on a wedge, don't eat big meals, sit straight while eating and chew well, try to move around after eating, eat last meal 3-4 hours before bedtime... and look on the internet for more suggestions...

Also, I'm not sure this is something you'd be interested in or not, but my mom also has BE, but she doesn't have all of the other health issues that I have, so she is able to do things for her BE a little differently than me. So, I looked into this book for her bc the Dr was talking about possible surgery for her, and I decided to buy it for her bc I kept hearing really good things about it. She had only been following it for a few days and was so encouraged and excited to tell me that it was already making a huge difference, so she is currently in the middle of the 28-day program, and is feeling so much better and has even lost weight. She also said that it is very interesting and informative. I bought it off of Amazon for $13

I’m using that book as well! It’s got a lot of good information and helpful recipes for a low acid diet. So far it seems to be helping me with the GERD - although I’m still having issues with swallowing.
Good luck to you both!

Hello,
Thank so much for reading and responding to my question about what to eat to help not loss more weight. Is there a place you buy the protein powder you drink? I live in Reading Pa. I guess I would have to buy it on line??? I had to stop eating the avocado because it is high with Nickel. And I was wondering why my Eczema was coming back again on different area's of my body. Then I came across a old list of food not to eat because of the allergy to Nickel. And it was on the list, along with cantaloupe and honey dew. So that was disappointing. So I will continue with the banana's and strawberries, apple's ( Fugi is the sweetest apple with the least acid). You made my day. Thank you it's wonderful to talk to other people that can help pass on there ideas to help with the diet BE diet. I really appreciate you taking the time to touch base with me. My name is Anita. I believe you name is Jojo?? I am really not a computer expert so trying to get use ot this site is all new to me. Hope you are doing well........
