Can't tolerate food 6 weeks post Cholecystectomy
I had a Laproscopic Cholecystectomy 6 weeks ago. I thought I got away lucky with being able to pretty much eat anything I wanted for the first 3 weeks post surgery, and now I can't seem to stomach any food. I am cautious of portion sizes and eating a low fat diet, but for the last three weeks it's just become worse, almost to the point of being afraid to eat. I miss food! Does anyone have any advice or their own experience they want to share? I see my Dr. tomorrow.

Yes. I had the same problem in 2021 and it took me 3 months to get my appetite back. Sometimes it takes the body that long to acclimate not having a gallbladder. I ate quite a bit of Salmon and lost alot of weight. Give it 3 mos. I developed Insomnia and anxiety during that period worrying so much about it.
I'm now one year post-operative cholecystectomy....generally I've been OK, but there are still ups and downs, in food tolerance, appetite fluctuations, digestion issues, etc.
I would be curious as to what your doctor says. So please share if you can, and post your appointment results.
I had my gallbladder removed 2 months ago, and my story is exactly like yours. Were you able to overcome this or are you still suffering?
What is your issue? Constipation, belly pain, diarrhea, or just no appetite? Im scheduled for gb removal in two weeks. Any suggestiins?
I didn’t have any surgery but have 7 chronic digestive disorders over 10 years. Chronic every day , plus Gastro Cardia Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue and insomnia even on sleep meds .
I can barely eat anything anymore . Gotten so much worse last year too .
I starve myself and eat very little in day because of it . We only eat dinner healthy at home 🏠.
I can’t tolerate food and don’t like eating it .
I started even throwing up every morning in April after eating just my reg sourdough toast and decaf tea .

I had my Gallbladder removed this past August.
( they found a 1.3cm polyp although it was not causing any issues) I ate everything for 2 months w/ zero issues immediately following my surgery! Then all of a sudden, after eating a couple of high fat meals, everything I eat now runs thru me. Now, I am trying to just eat bland, low fat food and it does seem to be helping.
My advice to you is start eating only low fat foods, in small amounts after your surgery. The surgery itself was easy. I didn’t even need any pain pills. Most people that have their GB removed are fine and have no issues at all. Good luck to you!
Thank you! So much variation in patient stories but your advice matches my surgeon’s. I’ll follow it.
