I just started PT with a pelvic floor specialist and already am noticing improvement with abdominal massage (small circles, 5 to 10, starting at lower right abdomen, then follow the path of your colon to rectum...repeat path, continue for 10 minutes). Also she recommended a TENS unit, but would want someone to guide you on how to use it. Med options: Motegrity (Rx only), magnesium ( I use MagO7 by nbpure), senna, bisacodyl.
I have a bowel condition called Pseudo Small Bowel Obstruction where apparently the muscles in my bowel sometimes do not work properly to move the waste through my bowel which causes an obstruction. My GI doctor has put me on two medications, 1. prucalopride and 2. pyridostigmine. These have helped me a lot but have just had another 3 night hospitalization due to another obstruction. Does anyone else have this medical problem and if so are there any other possible answers or helpful suggestions? I also take Restoralax when I haven't had a regular bowel movement.
I do miralax one dose and a dose of mag citrate powder mixed together every day at 7:39 pm then at 5 am I take Linzess with three tall glasses of water and I have a daily BM. You have to drink one glasss of water first then the next one with the Linzess and follow with a third. I then eat breakfast at 5:30 on the dot. I eat one good size of Ezekial bread with gobs of almond buttter and honey for breakfast daily. It starts working at 5:45 am. I have Been able to avoid hospitalization for obstruction. My issues are mostly in the left upper colon(I see my stomach swell up in that area daily , but I think the issue is where the small intestine meets the colon. Every MRI I’ve had shows lots of stool there and I had a positive Sitz study for slow transit colon. I use to be total vegan, eating like a rabbit but only had two hard BM’S per week and they were a struggle! I also have a Hx of endometriosis with lots of scar tissue on my intestines from that limiting their movement( peristalsis). I did have a surgery to get rid of some of the scar tissue but things were so stuck that they would have had to do multiple colon resections which would not be good. Even though my thyroid levels are fixed with thyroid meds it doesn’t help the movement. I also found that if I eat pear, spinach and kiwi fruit daily it helps. Lots of fiber and water all day and walking. If I don’t follow this regime to the T it does not work. Some people say they get bad diarrhea with Linzess but those are the people that don’t need it. They don’t know what real constipation is!

Thanks for sharing. According to x-rays and 3 CT scans there is nothing wrong with me. Just came on at age 67 for no reason I can come up with. Having 2 scopes next week.

I never had this much of a problem, but I did have much constipation and abdominal pain with it for a very long time. Keeping a food diary help as well as incorporating more water and soft vegetables and fruits into my diet. I do not eat a lot of grains, high fats or bread items. I eat more protein, soft foods and well cooked fruits and vegetables. I also take Magnesium Glycinate and Magnesium Citrate each night. Sometimes I will have a little prune/apple juice with my food during the day (couple of sips). These things are what has helped me along with abdominal massages for the ileocecal valve.

It sounds silly but it works. And also cheap and easy. I had to have my appendex out in 2016 and as a Crohn's person, I have a fussy G.I. tract. Consequently, I was almost ready to go home when my peristalsis stopped. I even threw up water. (Parelitic illius, they call it.) The cure is also the preventative- Walk and chew gum. Sounds like a punchline to a bad joke. But it works.

Thanks for your reply. I would like to know more about abdominal massages. Should I just try looking up on line.

Are you able to eat food with this type of motility problem ? I’m trying to figure out what to eat
The GI doctors said I can eat anything I want to eat with this problem. Do you have the same Pseudo diagnosis?
