Throat Cancer

Posted by mgraton @mgraton, Oct 16 12:10pm

My husband just received his diagnosis of Throat Cancer. We currently are just starting the process, and it is overwhelming. In addition, he also has Heart Failure and uncontrolled hypertension (on a ton of meds). He will be receiving Radiation/Chemo. I'm just wondering what to expect as we go along. I've read a lot of what you all have posted and know it will not be easy. Just wondering if anyone has some advice for me.

Hello @mgraton and welcome to the ENT group. In addition to the information here in the ENT group, you may find a bit more in the Head and Neck Cancer group as well. We can certainly help you out from a patient's perspective as to any issues that might come along. For a start, many choose a feeding tube after a few weeks in as it gets difficult to eat and swallow. It's a tough battle but usually win-able. Holiday plans are off the table for this year.
Any information as to the specifics of the cancer is always helpful. In the meantime, don't hesitate to reach out.
Courage.

@hrhwilliam thank you so much for the information, it is very helpful. My husband has esophagus cancer (right above his larynx). I did join the head and neck cancer group. I'm looking for any information I can find to help us get through this difficult time. With all his other health issues going on and now this, it is overwhelming. To hear another's journey is very helpful in what we can expect. Thank you again for the info and reaching out to me. If you should have any other information. Courage is what we have and the fight.
Thank you,
