Chronic Abdominal Pain

Posted by lz5b00 @lz5b00, Mar 21, 2012

I have had acute abdominal pain since April 2011 and it has escalated over the months.. The pain begins early morning, remains unrelenting and escalates throughout the day. It is sharp at times and gnawing most of the time. It radiates down from my sternum and to the lower left of my abdomen. My family doctor nor GI specialists cannot find the cause. I have had CT scans, ultrasound, video capsule endoscopy, colonoscopy, blood tests, push endoscope, H pylori tests, ova stool test for parasites and MRI, to name a few. EVERY test result has been returned as "unremarkable"--no cause found. I am currently taking Paxil 25mg, Nexium and Oxycodein for the pain. Nothing has helped me determine the source of this pain. I am reaching out to this community to see is anyone has a similar experience.

Has ANYONE found any answers for left deep rib pains that absolutely no tests can diagnose?? My 86-year-old cannot function and is living her last years in pure misery. My father is beside himself that he can’t help her. They went to two Gastro’s who completely blew them off which just angers me beyond belief. Now they’ve switched to their third Gastro and are finally letting me be involved so I can at least listen and help them with meds, etc.

My mother’s symptoms are: comes on in the morning as dull and then attacks her left side under her rib cage. She talks about it radiating to her back. They’ve been to the ER over 20 times and they just give her different medicines. Every test you can imagine comes back normal. Please help! It’s ruining the golden years of my sweet parents.

Thank you!!

Gallbladder pain is usually on the right side. Have they ran function tests on the Gallbladder? I had pain episodes & went to ER 4 - 5 times last year. Images taken never showed anything. Finally saw a surgeon who said that images don't always pick up everything. The pain disappeared after I had GB removed.

Keep pushing the docs, folks when they tell you that they don't know what is wrong with you. I had problems for 6 years prior to finding the cause of my nausea, vomiting, weight loss and pain. I was finally given the pill cam, which got stuck in my small intestine. This MADE the docs do surgery.....where they found a 10 inch ulcer in my jejunum......right where I kept telling them my pain was located......imagine that. The doc removed the ulcerated tissue, did a side by side anastomosis. So far, so good. My prayers are with you all.

Check out the Mals Section. It sounds a lot like it.

Hi, Have read your story (and many others here) with much sadness. So hard to be in one's golden years and in so much pain and discomfort. I had similar issues that went undiagnosed for years. One day an old friend of mine suggested I try her chiropractor. Seriously. And I know that not all chiropractors are the same, but this guy really helped me, even though I was skeptical at first. I have other comorbidities, but when this particular issue rears its wretched head, I now know what it is. I visit this amazing chiro. once a month now for maintenance and have been greatly helped. Apparently one's muscles involuntarily tighten up as a means of protecting the bones. And when this happens, nothing, helps to alleviate the pain. The chiro also told me that sometimes gentle heat can help. Just a thought......

This may be a real long shot but have you evaluated the oxalate content of what you eat daily, and tried reducing your intake should it be high? I had a big work up too for endless pain everywhere it seemed and it wasn't until I reduced oxalates that my pain condition went away. If your intake of oxalates has been high, one needs to taper down a high intake to avoid going into a oxalate "dumping" mode. Dumping leads to feeling worse. If you love chocolate, nuts, spinach, beans, soy, bran, almond milk. beets, etc. you may well be suffering from oxalate overload. Although doctors fixate on oxalate build up in the kidneys in the form of stones, oxalates have been found to reck havoc elsewhere too.

A lot of my pain and true with my test except two breath test saying SIBO ( which many drs say too many false positives) stool test was neg for SIBO only one blood test showed high inflammatory markers so they say IBS . Gut cognitive therapy, no dairy, sourdough bread only ( too many say gluten free products have too many additives) stretching, excersise , tons of water and tried every antidepressant with horrible side effects to help relax the brain to gut .

Did the ERCP's give you a pancreas attack? Were you diagnosed after EUS? What does it show if you have chronic pancreatitis?

I had an ercp and yes it gave me chronic pancreatitis I was sick for 5 weeks. They finally took out my gallbladder which had cholocystitis which is chronic infection. The surgeon told me that I more than likely have had pancreatitis many times. I wasn't supposed to get it again after my gallbladder was removed, but I did. So now they consider it chronic. They're going to have to explore autoimmune disease which my mom and my grandma both had. Because
that can cause chronic pancreatitis. I'm on pig enzymes to support my pancreas so it doesn't have to work so hard and my food can be digested. It's been really hard trying to figure out what to eat. Everything is either too sweet or too salty. I can't have any fat or any sugar. This has been so hard because not only have I been in the emergency room and hospital several times in the last 6 months but it's been hard on my family. Anyway, just wanted to see if anybody else has had the same experiences. I'm more than likely have rheumatoid arthritis like my grandma. But I did not know that autoimmune disease can cause chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic atrophy. Any suggestions would be helpful.
