Are there any new cures for a macular pucker?
I’m a 74 male in good health. I’ve had a macular pucker for several years now and it seriously affects my vision. A specialist recommended a vitrectomy but he didn’t give me a lot of hope that I would get much relief and it would probably only be temporary. I’m wondering if there are any new developments that might give me better hope.

I have macular puckers in both eyes for more than 15 years. I never noticed any symptoms until I had cataract surgery last Feb. Slowly my brain has adjusted, but the IOL didn't help my vision. I've been nearsighted all my life, and the IOL is sort of middle distance, so I can't see close any more. I told Dr I wanted to be able to thread a needle, but he didn't listen, just put in a lens off the shelf, it turns out he should have ordered a special close vision lens. I'm glad my right eye can still see close so I can thread a needle by closing my left eye.
You can have the lens replaced - there are many bifocal and multifocal IOLs, in addition to the Light Adjustable Lens, which might be appropriate, as well.
I’m not sure how an IOL would improve my macular pucker, but I will check with my doctor to see if this is a viable option that he didn’t consider.
I had a macular pucker approximately 10 years ago. I had eye surgery to smooth out the macular. It wasn't painful and the recovery period wasn't that long. Since the surgery, all the symptoms have disappeared! So far, so good. I'd say that it was a successful.
Thank you for sharing your positive experience. It’s pretty much the first lasting success story I’ve heard. Was your pucker fairly advanced? Mine is bad enough that I can only really rely on my good eye to read or watch tv. Corrective lenses do not help at all.
