The procedure was LPI, laser peripheral iridotomy, for narrow angle closure Glaucoma which was just beginning. My opthalmologist convinced me that I'd lose my eyesight or would have to undergo emergency lpi if I didn't get it done immediately, which as a layman I naively trusted
