Covid Vaccine with ITP
About 4 weeks after my second booster, routine labs showed a platelet count of 37. 6 months later still low 47.
Docs unsure if related to vaccination but advised against any further boosters.
Any thoughts on Covid booster and ITP?
Any ideas on Evusheld with ITP?
Any thoughts on flu vaccine?
Pneumococcal vaccine safety with ITP?

I have ITP and getting the flu and covid vaccines and booster caused no platelets issues BUT after the booster I developed Thyroiditis and a swollen lymph node.
Hello ,after my fourth covid booster and RSV vaccine, just in 3 month my platelets vent down to 25 , my Doctor gave me prednisone at first, didn't work....then I started PROMACTA 25mg ,taking every day, it worked ,but when doctor lowered the dose platelet count going down again....
This drug is working but it's complicated...
First when you are talking .
Second it's effects your gut and I started to taking Digestive drug.
third it's effects the Liver....
My liver is okay now but doctors told me I have to take this drug all my life I'm 60 years old now....
I don't know what to say.
Is there anyone taking this drug PROMACTA?
Looking for some suggestion About everything practically
Lifestyle, diet....
Did you go to another Doctor for 2nd Opinion...
No, I’m not. I hope you can gather some more information
Every patient is different, but I too developed thrombocytopenia 20k after my second booster. Some minor bruising noted but no frank bleeding.
My hematologist contacted the CDC who while not being definitive and did not provide a written response, (by my physician’s report) verbally told the providers that they have reports of such. They gave a risk factor of 1 in 10 million. They reported that of those reported the overwhelming majority returned to normal in months. Mine took about 18 months. Normal >200k, now for about 2 years.
I have even rolled the dice again and have taken last and this years booster without change in platelet count. I did switch manufacturers just out of unscientific caution.
Again, your experience may be different. You might ask your providers to talk directly with the CDC.
After 2nd shingles shot, my platelet count dropped to 200s.......and then slowly rose up to 300-400. I've been on HU for 3 1/2 years now. I've had 6 covid shots 5 Pfizer 1 Moderna without any platelet reaction.
You don't know how much I appreciate you're Reply....
I'm kind of lost .....because I was healthy, At my age I was getting little Aches and pains but nothing serious. It scares me because medication I'm taken Promakta .... Have a side effect on liver....
I also have very minor bruises.... That's why my Doctor did bone marrow biopsy.....nothing, no cancer.
Did you have a bone marrow biopsy?
What medication did you Take, If you took any .
Sorry for giving you many questions, But I'm still researching and trying to understand And get some knowledge about this .
What did you do or What your Doctor prescribed to you During this 18 month.
Again thank you very much for reaching out and giving me hope.
Remembering that every patient, and every provider are different.
It seems that everybody, patients, providers, the manufacturers, the CDC are really in the dark on this. Fortunately, it seems the CDC is trying to collect as much information as possible. But in the end, no one really knows the right course particularly for individual patients.
I like conservative physicians. My hematologist, and my internist are both pretty conservative, but very well read and intelligent. I am fortunate that they listen to me. We decided as a team to just watch it since I wasn’t actively bleeding. I could tell that they were pretty scared as they gave me rather explicit instructions if I were to show any side of bleeding. But fortunately, except for one episode of hemorrhoid bleeding, I never had significant bleeding. I did go in to get a valuated because they had made me very scared about G.I. bleeding. But in the end, my platelets slowly rose. We check them about every month to every other month, and as I said, in my previous post in about 18 months, they returned to normal.
I was looking towards getting a bone marrow biopsy, but my hematologist was pretty strong and convincing that it was unnecessary since all the other cell lines look normal on the peripheral smear.
They did not put me on any medication‘s but did take me off the Plavix that I was on for a stroke 20 years ago. This medicine interferes with platelet coagulation. Once my numbers began to rise, at about 75,000, they put me back on the Plavix.
I hope this is helpful. It is pretty scary. Fortunately, most people do well. At least that’s what the CDC claims. The only advice I would offer is search the Internet, and find a provider Who is willing to listen.
Good luck
