Took a Fall
I'm so angry and frustrated right now. Legs have been feeling much better. Rotator cuffs and shoulders still painful but somewhat improved. Have resumed walking and also about twice a week, some upper body strengthening. Not much due to rot cuff/shldr pain.
So today, I took a nice hard fall, impact mainly below both knees. Baker's cysts have been so bad, just starting to improve. Apparently, knee injuries are cause BC's. Great.
As well, landed on both hands and have torn rotator cuffs already on right. So afraid they are now torn more as inflammation makes them more sensitive to injury.
Right hip is a bit angry and above into back. I'm so concerned.
I did read that pmr can be triggered or re-triggered by a fall. I think I'm going to go ahead and do my strengthening routine today anyway. I can't go backwards. Dammit, I'm so frustrated. Also have osteoporosis in back and one hip, so there's that to worry about. I figure if I can walk around and not be in too much pain, perhaps nothing is broken. PMR is another story. Thanks for any feedback.

My tapering has been going smoothly right now except for fatigue, at 3 mg.
I did have a nasty fall in July on concrete. Went to the er , nothing broken. The bridge of my nose, thumb, elbow and knee were all bleeding and I badly sprained a finger. Everything healed ok except for my knee which apparently now has aggravated cppd.
And I am
worried about falling again so I am being extra careful.
I just took it really easy for a few days, used ice packs and took tylenol.
We were not at home when I fell but luckily had ice packs in the car which minimized bruising.
Don't concentrate too much on what might go wrong and take one day at a time. I drink chamomile tea to relax.
Sorry that you fell, hope things feel better soon.
The reason we had ice packs is we have a cooler in the back of the car when we go out for cold stuff from grocery shopping.
Hahaha. I was wondering about those ice paks, thinking what a great idea! And it really is these days!
I'm sorry you took that nasty spill and hope your knee heals nicely. Sorry about the rest of the areas you injured as well. Sounds very painful.
I really do thank you for reminding me that lingering on this will.not.help and just causes more worry and even pain due to focusing. My new thing is after something *happens*, I tell myself out loud, "OK, stop ruminating. No do-over here." And also appreciate your kindness.
Take good care. Thank you for responding, and yes, being extra careful and trying to stay in the moment make a difference.
My bone density has been falling for a while now and my mother had really bad osteoporosis, so I've been doing proactive balancing classes (available online) and was able to do a live PT session that taught me how to do a "good fall." I know they teach good falling practices in Europe and do NOT understand why it isn't taught here with this expensive medical system! Anyway, it is something that can be learned and must be practiced.
I did so for a few weeks after the PT session but then got lazy. Then this week when I was walking the neighborhood kids to school I did a hard fall on the playground because I was trying to play with them (ha!) and discovered that my new skills are not yet burned into muscle memory. I did it all wrong! Fortunately for me the playground has that nice soft surfacing so nothing got injured except for my pride. I'm sure that without that surfacing I would have some broken wrists at a minimum. I learned my lesson - back to practicing every day!!
So sorry about your fall, pdx, but glad you are OK. I don't know for sure if I am or not, but so far, OK. Badly bruised under the knees but not on them, which I hope is the better mess. Not sure about rest of body yet.
The thing about "Falling Right" classes, is that falling catches us off-guard and it takes more than a few classes to train the brain. Maybe something like stunt people take. At the very least, prob should practice every day. I try to be intentional but in life, we trip and we fall too.
Here's to remaining upright!
Take good care.
