Do more people use 3% or 7% saline solution? Is 7% best if it isn’t too hard for you?

I started with 3% but switched to 7% at some point and found it more effective. I tolerate it ok. I also use a brand called Pulmosal 7% PH +. It is PH balanced and I find it less harsh. I also use another 7% brand since I need two viles in my AM treartment and tolerate it ok. If you can tolerate it 7% works better (at least that is my experience).

Hi @karen10225,

There was a recent thread that had a lot of comments on this topic. Here's the link: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/3-saline-vs-7-for-nebulizing/

I used to use 3% primarily but use 7% because I do find that I get more out with it. It usually doesn't bother me, but if It seems to be irritating me too much, I'll switch to 3% and just go back and forth between the two doing what feels good.

I cannot tolerate 3%, it effects my gastritis.

Hi Karen, I started with 3% and tolerated it well. Then I switched to 7% without a problem. The 7% was a game changer in terms of improving my cough. I've been on it for about since May of 2023. I nebulize with it once per day.
