Oura Ring for tracking oxygen saturation
Hi all,
Pulmonologist nurse suggested measuring my oxygen saturation during the night since I am having most of my difficulty breathing after going to sleep. Rather than have to get out of bed every time I’m considering an oura ring (I know…costly). Anyone use one and if so are they accurate for this measure?
Thanks,
Lisa

You should be able to do an overnight oximetry test with a device you can get from your dr. It records everything while you sleep.
Easy and I don’t think expensive. At least mine wasn’t
As suggested by Sparky55 your Pulmonolgist should order you an overnight oximetry test to formalize what is going on when you sleep. Such a professional can then order oxygen etc. for you if warranted.
I have lung issues so need to track my oxygen levels under all condtions
I purchased Lookee O2 ring suggested by someone here on Connect. I am happy with it. It has a rechargeable battery and uploads data to your phone and you can hook up to your computer and also upload the information. That allows you to create and print out a report on oxygen levels, drops, and pulse rate.
I have used it overnight and also when I am exercising to see how much my O2 drops with exercise with and without my oxygen.
Thank you @vic83 thats just what I needed. I’ve already done the overnight one and need one that I can record long term including exercise.

@lluth412 ,
I have sleep apnea, and during Covid my repeat sleep study test showed my oxygen level dropping to lows of 72% and this qualified me for home oxygen. You may want to consider a test for sleep apnea or oxygen titration if you haven't already had the tests.
I use the Lookee Tech Sleep Pro oximeter to monitor my oxygen saturations at night, and during exercise because I have heart failure, PH, and AFib. My oxygen drops if my heart rate goes over 120. The reports and alarm are fabulous. I have used the device for 4 years and I am now off oxygen during the day at home with light activity. I need oxygen at higher elevations, airline travel, and a little at night with CPAP.
In my experience, the report from the device will not qualify you for oxygen, but it is extremely helpful. Most insurance requires a medically supervised test.

I have attached 3 images showing the report you see in the ViHealth app on your phone or similar device, and 1 pdf summary file.
I have improved significantly. In 2021 I was on two liters of oxygen. I slowly trained myself off of oxygen during the day using this device, my Apple Watch to monitor my heart, and working with fabulous physical therapist.
I relate! I have pulmonary fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension and multifocal lung cancer. I do frequent CT scans and pulmonary function tests. Just watching TV my O2 is great but if I move it drops.
So I have portable O2 concentrator to go out and stable concentrator for sleep. It all started 3 years ago when I noticed slight shortness of breath getting up in the morning
My Medicare covers stable and portable O2 equipment, I need prescription of course. Prescription neeeded also to know how much O2 is required and obvioiusly Lookee O2 ring does not tell one that!

I have withings scan watch 1 (without body temp), but scans everything else including o2. I mainly upgraded to scan body (had their older watch) because of o2. They have their own app, you can view reports and email to your mds. It took them a while to bring scan watch to US market because of ekg readings, but its been here for the past 2 years. Now i see there is 2nd version with temp.

Ps
I read in your profile about cough after Mexico. Did your pulm ran labs for fungal pna ? Cocci, histoplasmosis, etc ? It will also show on xray and/or ct with/without contrast. I had fungal pna after trip to mexico 🙂
You can also try to get a consultation with infectious disease md
Thanks to everyone for the suggested products. Reviewing all this week.
@lenchiksf thank you! Yes I’ve had a brochiiscopy and what feels like a million tests for everything under the sun (even desert fever and I’ve never been in any of those areas). It doesn’t seem to be from Mexico but maybe bubbling up for months and Mexico just kicked it off. Tests show slightly elevated eosinophils (500) but really high IgE (2700). We flew to Rochester yesterday and first appt with pulm tomorrow! Looking forward to a team that will uncover a lot more than my team has done at home. I’ve only had one CT scan when they sent me to ER with no contrast - their reasoning is the second X-ray shows improvement. I don’t know enough to argue - this is so new to me. They have moved me to four different pulmonologists and this last one seems happy to call it severe persistent asthma and willing to say “we don’t know what caused it but insurance accepts your meds with that diagnosis so we are just going to treat symptoms moving forward”. Okay that’s good that we have meds but I’d really like to be off prednisone and I’d like a little more assurance before I start dupixent. Will let you know what Mayo finds out!
Mine was left lower lobe, so i had to have CT guided biopsy. It makes sense that 2nd xray shows improvement as they are taking part of the nodule lol:) either via broncoscopy or biopsy 🙂 mine was 2cm to start with and now 8mm. I had pulm and ID md working together! Good luck tomorrow !
