Evenity and side effects: What helps joint and muscle pain?

Posted by rjkesal123 @rjkesal123, Feb 13 12:40pm

Hi All,
I received my first Evenity injection two weeks ago. Everything was going well, did not even have injection site pain. But the last couple of days I have had joint and muscle pain especially in my neck and upper back, Lower back and arms. I've read the drug peaks around 7 to 14 days. I am wondering if this is normal, has anyone else experienced this and if these side effects subside? Is there anything you take before or after the injection to relieve this pain? It is very uncomfortable. Thank you!

@pami I had to cancel my appointment tomorrow because my father-in-law, who is 94, is in the last stages of life and so our family is all together with him until he passes. I'll report once I get in for my appointment.
Did you have any other side effects other than the rashes and sore arms?

I just had my 8th shots yesterday. After the nurse gave me my shots, I had the usual swelling (a lump) and a little tenderness in the area where I got the shots. I massaged the area (which I never did before). This morning I woke with no pain in right arm and just a little tenderness in the left.
I am sorry to hear about your father in law. It sounds like he has lived and life.

@pami - thanks for giving me some confidence about the injections. I had very few side effects from Tymlos and I’m certainly hoping not to have any with Evenity.
My father in law is in his last days…he lived a long life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Thanks Rose 🌹

I just started Evenity last August. I had neck pain after my first and second dose. It seems to appear about two weeks after each injection. I just took Aleve and after a day or two the pain subsided. I hope this helps.

@susaniqbal my friend and I both had side effects at 11-12 days into Evenity each time and I read that that is when it peaks (peak of action). So for us, the side effects dissipated as the peak declined.

90 ounces of water would have me peeing all day long! 😂 I will be receiving my first Evenity shots on Wednesday and I’m a bit nervous after reading some of the side effects people are experiencing. I was nervous about Tymlos but my side effects were pretty minimal and I had really good gains in my spine. I’m going to take ur advice and overdose on water beginning today. Someone mentioned alternating Motrin and Tylenol for a few days but I’ll decide on that. At about my 18th month in Tymlos I began having pain in my ankles and feet which hampered my exercise program a bit and though I called the manufacturer to report it they said that wasn’t a side effect that had ever been mentioned. I had an MRI and there was a bit of narrowing between joints but 2 weeks after completing Tymlos, the pain stopped and hasn’t returned. I’m really hoping for an easy time with Evenity.

@dooshie I guess this comment is too late to help with your first injection but I'll post it anyway.
I think reactions to Evenity are getting over expressed somehow in this group or elsewhere. The immediate reactions are often mild to non-existent. I'm not discounting anyone who has some serious reactions but in general it's pretty mild. My 12 months of injections were without any side effects worth mentioning. I say it that way because I see some listing all their side effects and it may make it seem more serious than it was. Yes, I had a stinging sensation (for 2-5 seconds) once or twice out of 24 injections. Two or three times there was a bit of puffiness at the injection site for two or three hours. Once there was a bruise. Sometimes I got stimulated for a few hours. I say good grief that is all nothing. That's pretty normal for sticking a needle in your skin and injecting something into it. I could have as much reaction to injections of water I suspect.
Again to anyone who has a serious reaction I'm not denying your experience.

BTW, I see people saying they always do all these different meds and techniques to prevent reactions and that because of that they never have reactions. My response is that with Evenity you likely would have had no reactions without those tricks.
So to my mind there is no reason to be taking Tylenol or Claritin or antihistamines or any of the things folks do for Reclast.
@pami I do see in your comment that you figured out ways to stop the reactions you were having and that's great.
In my case I would be just as likely if not more likely to have an unpleasant reaction to Tylenol or Claritin etc as I am to Evenity. Seriously!

@awfultruth…you’re so sweet to message me. I appreciate it so much. I actually had to cancel my appt for my first injection as my father in law is in the final stages of life and we have been with him and the family pretty much 24/7. I’ll reschedule my appt after he passes.
I was pretty skeptical with Tymlos and fearful as well and the side affects I had were pretty minimal so I really should just push ahead and pray my experience with Evenity will be the same.
I did have some injection site bruising with Tymlos, some fatigue, weight gain and about the 18th month, ankle and foot pain, but I also had good gains so it was worth the discomfort, that completely remedied itself once I completed my 2-year protocol. This journey is not the easiest but I’m thankful we have options to strengthen our weak bones and to continue to enjoy our lives. Rose 🌹
