MGUS and Susceptibility to infection
I'm a teacher for special education in two small elementary schools (ages 7-13). I've 12 years left to retired. Asthma, Bronchodilation and MGUS cause susceptibility to infection to all kind of viruses. After normal flu I'll be very sick and get different kind of sequela. Is the some medicals facts or journals of connection with MGUS and susceptibility to illness? Yesterday I was at the doctor's and she didn't know any evidence of that. So they don't know anything about MGUS here in Finland. I appreciate the information I can use to prove my susceptibility to infections.
I am still recovering from corona three weeks ago. The first week at schoolwork after summer holidays was nightmare. I was so tired at half time of the day, so when I'm came back home, I only slept and tried to watch the Olympics games, although the Finns didn't get any medals.

Here's what I understand
Your MGUS means you already produce excess IgM (or IgG?) which is the first line of defense when we get an infection; and then your antibody levels ramp up further. I have observed this in my husband upon immunizations over past several years since his diagnosis in 2019, at age 61. Flu, pneumonia, RSV, shingles and then Covid vaccines, (offered to over 60 yr olds or 65 y.o. in USA, as preventive care) have left him fatigued and run down. I perceive that the "extra" response by ones bone marrow is what is exhausting to him, metabollically. On the other hand, after 4.5 years, he was exposed to and contracted Covid, and it took him 3 weeks to clear the virus and he needed prednisone to keep his lungs clear. It's 3 weeks later and he's almost back to his normal level of activity & is pretty sedentary anyway.
All this to say: what you can put into place with your physician and workplace, to include classroom hygiene, will probably be protective for you. I understand sometimes special needs kids need additional help and assistance with thise skills. Do you have or can you ask for additional teacher's aides in the classroom to help manage these issues?
I have too much IgA and too little IgG and IgM. I work with all pupils, especially with those who has the most learning problems. I work at the classrooms or in the small room with one to three pupils. I don't have any assistants. I've got the second COVID three weeks ago, still try to survive with normal activities at home and work. It's very hard time to stand and walk. I've got last February my first shingles. I was very sick, tired and it hurts so much.
It’s the IGG and IGM deficiency that is causing the susceptibility to infection. Depending on how low those levels are, you may benefit from IVIG infusions. These infusions boost your IGG primarily and reduce your chances of infection. They are ordered by an allergy/immunology Dr. and may be given monthly or every other month. There’s definitely a connection between MGUS and infection susceptibility. General measures like frequent hand washing, use of masks, and sometimes preventative antibiotics are prescribed. Avoiding sick people is wise but hard to do with your line of work. I would find an allergy/immunology dr who can help with the immune deficiency and your asthma as well.
We will got a new C-19 vaccine 6 months after the last COVID infektion here in Finland. So my next vaccination will be on January, if I won't get a ne infection before that. The say we will have a new version of COVID on November or December, so there is a big possibility have that before January. I'm very sad. I'm still sick after infection on last July. My throat hurts, I coughed
and have many problems with muscles and joints, especially in hands, fingers.
I have kappa mgus. Exercise and eating a lot of fruits and veggies helps immunity a little. You should wear a face mask at school those kids will get you sick repeatedly they have masks for teachers that are see thru over mouth so kids still see you and won’t be scared. Washing hands isn’t enough. I learned my lesson after having bronchitis for 6 months at age 42
I am allergic to almost all fruits because I have all pollen allergies. Only citruses and grape are suitable. I eat berries from the freezer, but they also cause heartburn. Also prohibited are nuts, legumes, mushrooms, rye, fish. Fresh vegetables must be heated in the oven. Thanks the mold from 1980 to nowadays. I can't use masks because it cause sinus problems. And the plastic is not for me. I've tried.
