Thoughts on bio identical hormones and ET? I am assuming it’s not safe?

Bio identical hormones: there are no well done scientific studies that support bio identical hormones. I searched for them because I had patients that wanted insurers to pay.

I am have ET (JAK2+). I have been using bio identical hormones for 17 years with no issues after doing a lot of research. However, most Hematology Oncologists would likely tell you not to use any type of hormone treatments (based on other support group discussions), including my own Mayo MPN physician. There are no studies for hormone treatments specifically on ET patients and most studies show that oral estrogen has a higher incidence of blood clots. Bio identical hormones do not include oral estrogen and most physicians no longer prescribe those either. I am certainly not advocating using bio identical hormone treatments as everyone’s situation is different and you should definitely use the advice of your own physicians.
