Tylenol eight hour arthritis pills for joint pain?
I was wondering if it pays to give Tylenol eight hour pain relief pills a try for my joint pain? every once in a while my rheumatologist asks me if I have ever tried Tylenol which I never did. I am not doing well on any of the pills that I’ve tried so far all they do is give me way too many side effects which are not great!!! any information would be helpful!!!

Please, Please Be Careful with the Acetaminophen high dosage. A friend of mine's Dad passed from Tylenol Poisonings, Liver Failure. Hospitals also state Acetaminophen Poisonings is one of their most frequent, large amounts of patients. Perhaps you could ask your doctor about Tramadol 50mg pain medication? It is a synthetic, non addictive pain med that tricks the THC Center of the brain to believe and allow it to function as an Opioid; normally without any sleepiness, or "High" feelings. I have had CML Leukemia since 2004, oral Chemo 5 days per week, 3 failed Spinal/Lumbar Surgeries/Fractured C7 vertebrae and now PMR. Back pain resulted in onset of no clue sweating, puking, clammy pain attacks. The Tramadol once or twice a day for me is great, sometimes at worse moments combined with Acetaminophen once a day. My wife occasionally takes 25mg of Tramadol for her Sciatica or knee/meniscus topics with no complications. Just a thought. I hate to see any good person in pain.
Current guidelines for acetaminophen (Tylenol) are to take no more than 3,000mg daily. I take 2,000. No liver problems so doctor says this is ok for me. Tramadol is a good effective drug. My husband was on it for back pain after complicated back surgery for a few years. But you are dependent on a doctor who has to order it , and it is a schedule 4 controlled substance so it can be difficult to get some doctors to order it.
try tart cherry capsules. My 30 years of osteoarthritis pain was gone overnight. thanks to someone HERE's suggestion. Asked my doc to do a gout (uric acid ) lab and YUP, that is what it was. Can you believe it?! went to so many freaking docs. What a waste of time! Yes, I have OA but it was the gouty arthritis inflammation causing the joint pain.
I was diagnosed with inflammatory arthritis more than 30 years ago. PMR was diagnosed 15 years ago but I'm currently off Prednisone and on a biologic.
My uric acid level is elevated but my doctors aren't sure if it should be treated or not. I actually passed a kidney stone composed of 80% uric acid. My rheumatologist treated me with allopurinol for a year but it didn't seem to have any effect on my pain level. Allopurinol was stopped.
Now my uric acid level is high again. My PCP is debating on restarting allopurinol but hasn't decided yet. The urologist who is monitoring my kidney stones says from a urology point of view, my uric acid level isn't her realm unless it is in my urine.

@dadcue, I took a blood test showing my uric acid was high. This can't hurt and its only $20. It might help and can't hurt. If I really hurt I take one at night too! https://www.amazon.com/Zazzee-Tart-Cherry-Gluten-Free-All-Natural/dp/B07CTKPKSX/ref=asc_df_B07CTKPKSX/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=692875362841&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=12304740712550533137&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1014374&hvtargid=pla-2281435185098&psc=1&mcid=ec966c6468a637f0b545faae57446476&hvocijid=12304740712550533137-B07CTKPKSX-&hvexpln=73
@gila
Guidelines for daily acetaminophen are no more than 4,000 mg in a 24 hour period. I got this information on a bottle of ES Tylenol rapid release capsules.
So I’m very careful if I take any extra Tylenol and so far all my liver tests are good.
Tramadol is good but it is still classified an opioid which is why it is sometimes hard to get doctors to order it. I had a reaction to Tramadol and can’t take it. So my doctor prescribed Percocet, another opioid, which is oxycodone combined with acetaminophen. I have PMR, currently on 7.5 mg prednisone, inflammatory arthritis and osteoarthritis. I’m under tight control with my opioid medication with a pain management team.
Tylenol should not be taken for more than 10 days in a row …info is on the bottle.
@loriesco high uric acid can mean:
Gout
Kidney disease
Heart disease
High blood pressure
Diabetes
Fatty liver disease
Metabolic syndrome
You might want to see what is causing the high uric acid and proceed. It could be your complications may indicate something else is going on rather than or with PMR.
I have tried Tylenol arthritis with very little relief. Now that I finally had an MRI, I was diagnosed with a labrel tear and tendonitis. I no longer am using prednisone for PMR or pain relief. Instead, I use Ibuprofen 200 mg. daily or sometimes every other day for pain relief.
I know what's causing the high uric acid: inherited. I also increased purines this past two years in try to lower my cholesterol (which I did to 187!) but think the sardines, tuna and salmon had too much purines for my diet!
Dr.s told me never to take Ibuprofen for over 3 days. It did land me in the hospital with poisoning and that was when I was put on opioids for chronic pain (disc degeneration).
I only take Tylenol/with Oxycodone (Percocet) for 25 years. I have labs drawn all the time. It is no problem and the only pain reliever I take. The dose is very low. It is okay and approved for chronic pain (CDC). I take 650 mg or less per day. I don't take from a "bottle" straight.
High uric acid means gout in my case. It's familial. It is responsible for my whole body inflammation, which has been misattributed to my OA for 30 years!
The Tart Cherry Capsules is controlling my gout symptoms (which was recommended HERE!) and I am retesting for the Uric acid in 2 months to see if it lowers the numbers.

"Based on a recent study, it was found that after the FDA's mandate in 2011, which limited the amount of acetaminophen to 325 mg per tablet when combined with opioids, there was a significant decrease in hospitalizations and the proportion of acute liver failure cases caused by acetaminophen and opioid toxicity. These findings highlight the impact of regulatory interventions on patient safety and medication-related adverse events.[30]"
I understand why you were given the ibuprofen for your tears. Good luck with that! I would suggest not allowing yourself to depend on it for too long. You will feel like crap when you stop for 3 days. I went through withdrawals in 2001! Unbelievable. Not anywhere close to when I don't take opioids! amazing.
