Is there any med that relieves mild but constant pain?
Tomorrow I am scheduled to drive sixty miles into the city to visit the pain management chap that the ortho Doctors I saw four years ago use. At that time, they offered me 3 or 4 opioid type medicines to help with the peroneal nerve pain, none of which did any good. I understand the one I am to see tomorrow does not prescribe opioids at all. I mention that only as information, as I Never used any of the previously supplied drugs for more than two or three days.
My Question is, Are new and effective drugs available today that were not available 4 years ago? Is it worth it to make the drive?

No.But I plan to beginning tomorrow. I made a more extensive comment on that previously.
I am now working with a medical group that specializes in pain and Neuropathy. This includes tens unit on bottom of feet, infra red light on hands and feet, gentle chiropractic, message, stretch machine for back, and shots in feet and back with vitamins and lidocaine. I have been taking Arnica Montana 20X 5 little pills off and on throughout the day and Sombra on the painful areas that help a great deal with this 80 year old Vietnam Veteran. Thanks to all who contribute and Semper Fi.
I have dealt with pain for 30 years. I think you should go. I also think many answers here are limited to people's small amount of experience with both meds and docs. There are 1200 different pain meds. Try them all! That is what a doctor told me once when I was freaked out. I've been on low-dose Percocet for 25 years. I am not addicted but I do have pain! I have never built a tolerance. It was the best choice for ME out of opioids, antidepressants and nerve meds. There is an off-label use of some novel meds. After 30 years I am learning new things about my body and why it is in pain and I'm BEGINNING to get better! Never give up. Keep reading, questioning, and questioning your doctors. Its hard to believe that one of my pains - gouty arthritis is finally being handled by a simple tart cherry capsule supplement - the idea I got from this group a month ago. Good luck. Yes, there are new meds from 4 years ago and new ways of using the old ones!
Does anyone have swelling & stiffness on their instep plus stiffness up toward the shins?
So do I take it that presently you do continue to take Gabapentin? May I ask your current dose and symptoms? Thank you.
I take 1 capsule in the morning and 2 at night. 300mg caps. Symptoms vary but have worsened recently after four years of levels 2 to 4 in foot to now much worse, foot and upper leg. Peroneal nerve.
Discussed LDN with my doc. He'd never heard of it and mentioned that the drug didn't come in such a low dose. I told him I thought I had read somewhere that pharmacists would break up pills. He advised I reschedule that pain management appointment I had canceled. So a few minutes after I left his office.I'm in the car and he calls me. Says he found something on an NIH site. Great doc.
Yep. If I had known I would have to be my own doctor later in life I would have gone ri medical school. It’s alarming how few real doctors are left
So true, the first Doctor we went to 6 years ago when we moved here upset a medicine balance I'd head for twenty years then maybe more. The next just disappeared! I waited six months to get into my current doc's patient list. Worth the wait. I like my specialists but why are so very many Indians and Pakistanis? I have an idea.
Good evening @solobeee1, I think this is the first time someone has asked this question about the instep.....at least when I am reading. I am going to assume that you are relating this incident to neuropathy. And if so, I have exactly the same concerns about my insteps. I was diagnosed with SFN ten years ago. However, I have just recently begun to notice my insteps. They are stiff and tight with different levels of pain which I think depends on what kind of shoes I might be wearing.
I also have begun to notice that my MFR therapist is spending more time working on my feet, using her knuckles to try to wake them up from the stiffness. So recently I started a little test for my shoes. The results have indicated that it is very important to have higher insteps in my shoes. My local shoe store helps me and I must admit that Mephisto shoes are rated #1 by me. They are expensive....however, they last for years. And their sandals feel like they are actually attached to the bottom of my feet.
Have you tried inserts? Does it help to wear cushy socks in the winter? Please let me know.
