Gastro Doc calls Vowst a C-Diff "game changer".
After multiple bouts of C Diff it was suggested I try Vowst.
I did! So far alls quiet on the southern front. Vowst says it is 88% effective. I hope I'm one of them. Problem! My co pay was $2500.
However they are open to relaxing this amount.

Hi Jerry. Thank you for sharing the information about Vowst and how well it’s worked for you. (Shhhh we don’t want to jinx anything! 😉)
C-diff is no joke and it just loves to make repeat visits! I’m so sorry you’ve been victim to this nasty gut issue.
C-diff is highly contagious and easy to get reinfected no matter how cautious a person is. Judicious hand washing is a must. Also, it can help to eat pre and pro-biotics to keep the gut biome healthy and balanced so the C-diff bacteria doesn’t have the opportunity to grow out of control.
In spite of all the efforts to control it, the bacteria has other plans. So this Vowst does sound like a game changer! I wish you continued good success!!
That’s a pricey co-pay, but if it works I’d say it’s worth it! Is this treatment a one-time prescription or is it ongoing?
one time
My GI insists that the latest research on pre and probiotics for C-diff is that they are not only useless in helping to treat it, but can actually cause an increase in diarreah. I do know, I have taken loads of probiotics for years prior to getting c-diff, but got it anyway...
Hi @drdjoyce Interesting how there are so many differing opinions with helping to prevent a C-diff recurrence. Besides judicious measures for hygiene in preventing cross contamination, eating pre and probiotics are highly respected for helping to keep the gut biome healthy and balanced. My GI specialist is supportive of daily intake of foods like raw sauerkraut, kimchi, yogurt and soluable fiber and whole grains, etc., but not taking probiotic supplements. Some of the supplements can create more harm than good.
I’m sorry you’re also a victim of this nasty scourge. Has your GI specilist suggested Vowst? How many recurrences have you had?
Hi Jerry, I wanted to drop by to ask how you’re doing with C-diff. Any recurrences after your treatment with Vowst??
Hi, I wanted to weigh in on this discussion. After a colonoscopy in December of 2015, I ended up with C Diff. I also had a fecal transplant in 2019. I was free of C Diff for a long time. If I had to take a antibiotic, I also took Vancomycin and for about a week after antibiotics ended. I have no idea how, it came back with a vengeance June 2024. I tried Dificid, only gave me 7 days C Diff free. I was on Vanco twice a day, just to keep it at bay. My GI doc did a colonoscopy to verify that there wasn't anything else going on in my GI tract. I did do the Vowst. I finished the Vowst March 26, 2025. It's been a month and so far so good. I'm hopeful that it will continue to be a good. When I travel, I always carry Vanco, just in case. My GI doc does not advise probiotics. I had taken them for years. The person at Vowst advised not to take any probiotics for at least two weeks after the Vowst. I haven't taken any and I don't know if I want to start them again since there is so much back and forth about the effectiveness of them.
Good information here. I never thought to ask my gastro doc if he could prescribe vanco for “just in case” when traveling. I have a trip coming up and I have been anxious about that. Also, interesting that you took vanco after any antibiotic - I’ve also been wondering about that because as a frequent UTI sufferer I’m sure antibiotics are unfortunately in my future.
May I ask what happened between 2015 and 2019 that you had the fecal transplant?
Thanks for the info!
Hi, I had that colonoscopy and that started the C Diff. I never had any problems prior to that procedure. I also have had my share of UTI's. It seemed that taking Vanco with and for at least a week after the antibiotics helped keep me C Diff free. By 2019, the Vanco kept it at bay for awhile, but it ended up I was getting it much too often. I saw a GI doc and she said a transplant was in order. I did have UTI's after the transplant. That's why I was also using the Vanco, plus, I was also taking Florastor during that time. I have been trying different probiotics for years. I have read so many studies regarding C Diff, one had good results with oregano oil. I did take the capsules for some time, that may have also helped. The problem with oregano oil it is very strong and not good to take for an extended period of time. Coconut oil has also shown to help control C Diff. I have also taken that. As you can see, I have done extensive reading on this dreaded thing.
I have no idea what triggered the June, 2024 episode, but it has been a wild ride since then to taking the Vowst in March.
Talk to your GI doc about giving you a script for Vanco if you need to travel. I need an authorization for my scripts. But, if you have repeated episodes of C Diff, it would be a good idea just to have some on hand if you are away from home. We all know when it is C Diff and not just some GI tract due to food or just being away and not eating your usual diet.
Good Luck 🙂
