What helped me with hot flashes: What helped you?

Just thought this might be useful to people out there who have been hot flashing countless times a day like I was. My oncologist gave me oxybutynin 5 mg to take twice a day to help with the hot flashes from the Lupron injections. Got to tell you, it really has helped.

I’m taking 600 mg of gabapentin three times a day. It has no affect at all in my hot flashes, I still needed depo-provera to really control them.

One guy know that had hot flash problems was eating tofu every day and claimed it stopped hot flashes

I feel like I've earned my wings in this discussion. I'm 3 days into Orgovyx (relugolix tablets) and had my first hot flash last night. For a moment, I thought the AC kicked off but not so. I'm hoping it's a sign the medicine is doing its job. Thanks to all.

If your hot flashes get much worse. Let us know. I had a terrible problem with hot flashes for a year and my oncologist came up with a solution. Since then, I’ve had a couple of new solutions. Unless you’re getting a lot every day, most people can live with it.

70 y/o, started Casodex 8/1 and Lupron 8/12 then 33 rounds of radiation on 8/15. I have been having hot flashes, where my back, neck, and sometimes my face get hot but it doesn’t last very long, less than an minute, and has thus far, not been horrible. Just wondering if maybe it will get worse or if I am lucky and they just aren’t going to be that bad for me. Anyone else experience hot flashes that aren’t “that bad”?

Mine were hot from the beginning, to the point I started sweating down my forehead into my eyes, and my whole head would get completely wet.

I would also get a lot of fatigue just before the hot flash really got bad. This went on for a year until my oncologist came up with getting a depo-provera shot which stopped the problem completely, until I got on Zytiga.

@drawevets, I would stick with "lucky" until proven otherwise. How is your sleep? How are you dong in general?

I hope I am lucky when it pertains to hot flashes. Sleep though? What is that?
My issue with sleep does not come from the ADT, or at least if it does, I don’t know it. I have Trigeminal Neuralgia in the left side of my face and take carbamazepine. That makes my sleep difficult. The pain is horrible at times, but I am dealing with it.

This has been a major annoyance for me. Gabapentin seemed t help some but my PCP explained that you develop a resistance to it so need to take higher and higher doses. I didn't get on that train so only take it if I'm going to a social event.

I also got one of the Embr Wave2 devices and found it helpful. One of my initial MOs was a female who recommended it - she had friends who had used it for menopause hot flashes. Not perfect but once you learn to train your CNS it seems to be beneficial.

I just got back from a 2 week vacation in the mountains in Colorado and strangely had hardly any hot flashes. I live in a hot, humid environment in coastal South Carolina so maybe humidity aggravates it?
