Erectile dysfunction (ED) treatments: What works for you?

Posted by Jim, Volunteer Mentor @jimhd, Feb 12, 2020

I've been seeing a urologist for a couple of years. The reason for my first appointment was mostly about urinary urgency and frequency. Oxybutinin has reduced the frequency, but not the urgency. At my last appointment, last week, we focused more on ED.

He listed 4 options for treatment. #1 was Viagra and its siblings. Done that and they quit working. #2 was a pump, which I tried. It's great for masturbation, but a real mood killer when used during intimacy with my wife. Even so, part of ED is the inability to maintain an erection. #3 is injecting a drug into the penis. Doesn't that sound like fun? But I know that it works for lots of men. That leads to #4, a penile implant. An implant has the highest success and satisfaction rate.

I'd like to hear what has worked best. I can read the articles online, but I'd rather hear about what your experiences have been.

Hello,

I'm 47 years old. I have been having erectile dysfunction since my early thirties. I have done a couple of tests, for diabetes, prostate, testosterone, cholesterol, hypertension among other tests. The doctors say the results from my tests are just fine therefore, the Erectile Dysfunction cannot be as a result of any medical condition.

Mentally I am just ok. I have no stress and I have a strong desire for sexual intercourse. I have never had any injury that I can attribute to my condition.

For a couple of years, I have tried to use some medication to aid me with erection, however, I still can't have an erection that is strong enough for penetration.

What can I do or what can I use to deal with this condition?

You need to go to a sexual health dr. .. not a regular urologist ... sexual health dr's deal with these issues ... do it while you are still young .. there are tests that can be done to check to see if the trapped blood i leaking back out of your penis .. there are shots you can use on your penis which are pretty much painless that can help induce an erection firm enough for intercourse ... the long you don't have firm erections the more size loss you will have as you age .. I'm much older than u 70 ..but in the end I ended up going with a mallabble epile implant one of the best choices I have made ..

Only 47 and experiencing erectile issues. Tried medications and still no real results. Your best bet is a penile implant. Do your homework. I am much older than you, but suffered the same. If you are located in New York. Dr. IVAN COLON. 1-855-528-7322. You will never regret it. Yeah the first 3 or 4 month directly after surgery will find you hating me and possibly the doctor. But after that you will send letters of approval and appreciation. The operation (procedure) is not inexpensive. It costs. But depending on your health insurance, you might have little or no deductibles. Ot is worth a check. You have a long sex life ahead of you. Don't mock around any longer. The average implant lasts 15 to 20 years and fully guaranteed. Anyway, do your homework. I just wanted to save you some foot steps chosing the right Doc for the surgery. Good luck.

So I hadn’t had an erection in over 5 years (except for morning wood). I’m 53 now and I’ve tried all the pills with nothing but a pounding headache. 2 weeks ago, I finally tried the Trimix injection. First one was a small 6 (ml or CC?) dose given by a urologist to show me how. Within minutes, I was feeling it grow again. Didn’t get the full benefit cause I was 30 mins getting home. He suggested I try 10 next time. Giving myself a shot there for the first time made me a lil anxious but worrying about it was the worst part. 1 min after the injection, you could see it getting fatter. At the 3 min mark, it was growing longer and fatter. At 5 min mark, it was ready and my wife and I had amazing intercourse for the first time in years! I guess I lasted about 20 mins before ejaculating but remained hard for about an hour total. No pain, no side effects, just pure fun and a satisfied wife. Not sure what’s allowed here but I did take pics with the time after injection on them for my own reference. My size is a lil embarrassing to me but I’d be glad to share them if someone is on the fence about trying it. My experience with this couldn’t have been much better and exceeded what I was expecting. The only thing I benefit from sharing this is being able to help someone struggling to get their groove on again. Thanks for reading.

I have had ED and DE and it seems both may be non-motor systems attributable to my early Parkinson's disease. The oral medication options - Viagra, Cialis and Levitra - that I have tried were of some benefit, but not short of optimal results. I give myself a first injection of Trimix this week at 10mg and there was a generous (!) effect: plenty firm with climax achieved. Find a urologist with men's sexual expertise and see if he/she can prescribe. The injection causes no pain though the instructions seemed a little daunting but after a couple of times, you can feel reasonably confident with your technique.

Jim, I was in your exact shoes. Pills stopped working and I was intimidated by the more invasive options.

I know you found the pump to be a mood killer, but it became the best solution for me and my wife after we changed how we used it. The key was to stop seeing it as part of sex and instead as a quick prelude. I use it discreetly before things get started, so by the time we're intimate, I'm ready to go and the device is out of sight.

For us, the benefits won out: it's 100% effective with no side effects, non-invasive, and reversible. It gave me back reliability without the fear of needles or surgery. It just required a brief, awkward period to normalize it. Once we got past that, it gave us our spontaneity back.

Hope this helps. Good luck.
