← Return to Diarrhea after colon resection: How long does it last? Any tips?

As for not getting through another surgery, I had my entire colon removed via minimally-invasive robotic assisted surgery. I literally was up running a snowblower 2 days after being released from the hospital. I have zero lingering effects other than the diarrhea that results from not having a colon.

Mayo recommended for me that I take a thick slurry of Metamucil for the diarrhea. I recommend sugar-free because sugar can exacerbate the diarrhea. If you substitute something else, ensure the fiber you use absorbs liquids - not all do.

You can also get fiber supplements in capsules which are much easier to take than the powder when traveling.

The difficulty with treatment that is it takes a bit of experimentation to figure out how much and how often.

Hope this helps.

Thank you - My surgery was 8/22 I still have diarrhea on and off, my surgeon told me it would be like that the rest of my life.
I do take fiber pills but not consistently, right now I have had diarrhea for 3 weeks any suggestions?
And has any one else has it for three years after surgery?

Thanks!
