Pain in lower buttocks on side

Posted by karencar @karencar, Sep 17, 2016

I have pain on the right side of the lower buttocks. Ortho Doctor said it was from my back. I have no back pain. X-rays show normal hips. The pain sometimes radiates down my leg and sometimes to my foot. Doctor said don't do anything about it until you can't stand it anymore. So far I can live with it. I take Celebrex and Tylenol for arthritis of the knee cap which I have had for 30+ years. This helps the buttocks pain too. I am 72. Is there any therapy for this?

Thanks. I've had physical therapy but didn't help that much.

I should add that I also have a cushion in my car's bucket seat and a lumbar cushion as well. These help avoid Sciatica trouble and lower back pain when I go on Road Trips = my passion.

Thanks for the advice.

I could further add that I bought the cushions at the Mayo Home store on the corner of Barstow and Madison in Eau Claire. I checked a few trucker stores and didn't find what I needed. In addittion their prices were higher on what they did offer.

I'd like to check to see if I have what you have been experiencing. Starting having a burning, stabbing pain below my left hip especially going up stairs. After a week of so it went away.... Then waking up one morning had a burning stabbing pain in my Right side below my hip. So bad that i was done for the count from that moment on. I was in very good shape and have no signs of arthritis etc. No sleeping or laying position really helped much. Went to Ortho and got MRI. Said i had Cysts in L4/L5 area pushing on a nerve and thought that was the issue. He tried a shot of Cortizone below the Right hip area. No help. Ortho didn't seem on top of it so went to another opinion who found degenerating disks and the spine turning at L4/L5 with the cysts.. Pain consistent and getting worse. After much consideration and no other explanation i had the suggested L4/L5 disk replacement and fusion. Correctly a couple of things... But the stabbing pain never stopped and seemed to get worse for a while. After surgery healing, back to Ortho, thought it was Bursa, shot of cortisone, no help, thought it was S1 area, got an epidural, no help....tried many session os Physical therapy never helped usually hurt more after. Went to Chiropractor who is stumped but suggested a Neurosurgeon. PT says i'm positive for the Sciatic nerve leg lift test on the Right side. When I take Advil or Tylenol the pain goes away long enough for me to think i'm getting better but then is right back after 5-6 hours. med are starting to affect my stomach. I would REALLY appreciate any suggestions.
Thank you
