treatment for liver mets

Posted by steveron @steveron, Sep 15 10:33pm

recap: my wife had aborted Whipple 7/22/24 due to SMV involvement. We decided on SMART radiation therapy for 9/6/24, but this had to be cancelled as 9/3/24 PET showed liver mets and very high CA19-9. She started gemcitabine/abraxane chemo last week.

Anybody have success with this chemo, other therapy, clinical trial? Thanks.

Yes, I did; good for liver. Am on a 2 week on and 2 week off schedule which my medical oncologist showed me is a recommended regimen out of clinical trials. I’m 67 years old with cardiac arrhythmia and diabetes and asthma as underlying issues, but have fared well. I made the mistake and was off chemo for 3 weeks and it seems it spread to bone in my leg, but other than that it worked well for me. They thought it spread to my lungs but they’re not sure yet, but my pulmonologist doesn’t think so.

I should also add that I also get cisplatin added to the GA mix. Just be prepared for hair loss due to the abraxane.

good to know it is working for you. We will ask about cisplatin. Best wishes for continued success.

Just a note on adding Cisplatin-but your oncologist should know this-Cisplatin is especially effective with certain genetic mutations. Others, not necessarily. So please ask them to add or if not, why not.

we were previously told she does not have mutations, but we will ask again. thanks.

I’m getting viewray radiation on my liver and possibly pancreatic bed. Best wishes that your wife gets the treatment she needs; continue to be proactive and ask lots of questions.

My husband has been on Gemcitabine and abraxane since May of 2022. He was in a trial arm of Precision Promise with pamrevulab added but that ended in August and the drug is not going forward so now just the gemabraxane. His tumor shrunk by half long ago and has stayed at that size. 19-9 was normal for many months but now up to 71. Treatment every two weeks. Problems with WBC and platelets occasionally but overall very thankful for his quality of life and minimal side effects. I hope she responds as well. 🙏
