@davem Hi Dave, my kidney tx included a bi-lateral nephrectomy at the same time which is a much bigger surgery, so I had to stay in Rochester for about a month. Some stay a shorter time. I was going into see the team almost daily during that month, but not usually on weekends. After I went home, I had frequent labs at home and results or test kits would be sent to Rochester. I had to return to Mayo at 4 months which included a kidney biopsy, and yearly after that. Kidney biopsies on years 1.2.4, and I think year 10. Not sure if I will need more biopsies after that, but annual visits for sure. The local labs eventually went to every three months. I will be at Mayo in mid Nov. as well for my 4 year check and biopsy. I usually travel on Sunday, tests Mon & Tues, go home Wed. Congratulations on getting your tx evaluation at Mayo! Who is your coordinator? I had Shannon and she was wonderful! Do you have a living donor?

Jennifer, Your response was so helpful. I'm happy to see that it is/can be pretty manageable. Thank you! I'm not sure who my coordinator is yet. Dr. Bentall sent the referrals for my 21 appointments. I have had three offers from living donors. While I don't know how I feel about the whole gestalt - emotion, guilt, selfishness, impact on someone else's life for my benefit - I know I am incredibly lucky to have that support, however it plays out.
