De-escalated Radiotherapy: Anyone undergone lower level RT?

Posted by abes1068 @abes1068, Sep 3 8:42am

Hi. I underwent TORS and left neck dissection July 12. 8 mm primary on left tonsil and 2/35 nodes positive. 5 mm clear margins and no extranodal extension. T1N1M0. I just finished 30/60 gy right to both sides of neck. Has anyone with similar diagnosis undergone less RT like 50 gy with success?

Hello @abes1068. I had 70 gy 12 years ago for initial ear canal SCC. successful at primary site but now with metastatic disease. I know two friends with tonsil SCC also treated years ago. The one with full radiation is still cancer free. The other chose no radiation and when a new lymph node showed up he chose reduced < 50 gy radiation and it was not successful long term. I know there are studies that support the newer method of reduced radiation to decrease side effects. I would try to find more information that way as well.

@abes1068, I hope you saw the helpful post from @sepdvm. Any update on follow up to your radiation? How are you doing?
