Mayo is the best hospital anywhere (and I have been in several.) We have been here in Rochester since Sept. 3. Numerous tests were done and it was decided that the old kidney transplant had to come out.
The surgery was the 12th and I was discharged today the 15th.
We have to stay for a few more days and have followup appointments.
Surgery was done by Dr. Mikel Prieto and team. Dr. Mireille El Ter and Dr. Andrew Bentall were transplant doctors.
Everything went so well which is not the norm for me. So blessed to be here. Words can't express how we went from months of medical incompetence and frustration to MAYO excellence.

@dhozarksmo Congratulations on your successful 2nd kidney transplant or was it just the removal of the 1st old one? I too, had Dr Mikel Prieto for bilateral simultaneous nephrectomy and living donor transplant, and Dr El Ters, and Dr Bentall. I saw many other team members during 1st month follow up. Mayo transplant team is the best IMHO. If you need treatment or surgery in the future for another condition and have it at Mayo, the transplant team follows you as well. They are invested in keeping your new kidney functioning and keeping you well. 🙂
