Y-90 liver cancer treatment: What's your experience?

Posted by mudshark @mudshark, Dec 8, 2019

I recently was treated with y-90 on a tumor in my liver. I am interested in knowing of others that have had experiences good, or bad, and of long term results. I have had prior resection of the liver to remove a tumor but a new tumor surfaced in a different section. I am hoping the y-90 will prove to be a more permanent solution. Thanks

Hello - new to this - am stepping in on behalf of my husband, John, who has just this week gone through the mapping stage. He was diagnosed in last 7 weeks with liver cancer/primary. With a very large tumour 15 cm and then they found another one during mapping. He is not eating much and is totally depressed, I am reaching out to find some help. Reading your blog there is much reason to be hopeful. We are in Canada and the healthcare is good but not very communicative. Please advise if you have any appetite suggestions or any suggestions at all. We are kind of on our own here.

I am more than 5weeks post mapping and still have not got appointment for treatment. I live outside Atlanta and use Emory for treatment. I have been with them and my primary Gastroenterologist for over 12 years. This is Nuclear medicine so dosage and type have to be individually made, this takes time and seems they try to do more then 1 at a time. I know that there are at least 3 others currently waiting for treatment. I do have a coordinator for this, hopefully you do as well. They are not always responsive as they also are waiting for answers for when treatment can proceed. So don't feel alone it is just part of process. It will happen just know that. Oh and be thankful you don't have pets as they will not be allowed to be around him after treatment for several days. Worries me how to keep them away.

well, at least you're awake and happening. I would go with the treatment -- I was thinking you were already having it but can't follow all of the blog bit. Didn't you have this treatment this morning? Anyway -- good luck to us all.

seems many people have tumours which impinge on major blood vessels -- it's about the treatment and killing or shrinking the tumour

Morning Donna! Sunny morning here -- that helps - stay strong and keep going. When will they do the follow up to check results of your Y90 treatment?

These are details I am unaware of as John has just had the mapping done.
