New to adenocarcinoma lung cancer and have LOTS of questions

Posted by annallee @annallee, Jun 17 11:03am

I was recently diagnosed with adenocarcinoma lung cancer. Needless to say, I am extremely scared! Other than an obnoxious cough leading to the diagnosis, I do not know if I have had any other symptoms. I have, however, recently had new pains, or swelling in feet and ankles, that I am not sure if they are related or not and if I should be worried about them. I do not meet with the surgeon for two more days and curiosity is getting the better of me. Where can I find out more?

Hi @annallee, how is chemo going?

Hi! Thanks for asking. I will have my very first treatment next Tuesday. Sort of worried as my doctor said "this will not be easy". As if any of this has been so far! After chemo comes radiation, which they originally thought I might be able to forego the radiation, but things changed after surgery!

Thank you and anyone reading these conversations! I find them helpful - I hope you do as well; I will do my best to keep my content helpful (and positive!).

Did your surgeon get a tissue sample during surgery for genomic marking at a pathology place like Foundation One Medicine? I may have missed your saying you did in this thread but not backtracking right now. I did get the biomarking test and have been on Xalkori (Crizinitinib) target treatment for 8 successful years. 2 200mg pills a day.
BTW I was up and walking (barely) the floors of ICU about half an hour after waking up from the anesthesia....pushy wonderful beloved surgeon insisted "up and let's go". I growled but he was right. 15 minutes every hour and I recovered quickly. My wishes for good things for you.
