Where to get a Small nerve muscle fiber biopsy in Pittsburgh?

Posted by jan64 @jan64, Sep 9 5:33am

I have been told I need this biopsy and was referred to a doctor where I live, but was told they decide who they will take as a patient after they receive all the tests from the rheumatologist who referred to me. It is a pain clinic and the gatekeeper (person I spoke to) was not only unhelpful, but extremely rude. Has anyone had one in Pittsburgh, preferably with neurologist from UPMC affiliated hospital or practice? I have PN that is spreading fast, No help from my doctor or neurologist.

Really sorry to hear that you haven't had any success in finding relief for your neuropathy pain. It does sound like you need to seek help or a second opinion. I mentioned this in your first discussion on Rapid onset of PN? here - https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/1137124/ but wasn't sure if you saw my post.
Have you looked into finding a teaching hospital in your area?

I just called Cleveland Clinic and it will take 10 to 14 days to hear from their financial department since it is out of network. Apparently they will contact my insurance company first, and then I can pay out of pocket if it will not be covered. Cleveland Clinic is about 4 hours away. Has anyone had a good experience there with neurologists or neuromuscular doctors?? I am having worsening symptoms.

Cleveland Clinic sounds like a good place to go for help. Hoping you find some help and relief.

I think if you check UPMC doctors website you should be able to find a doctor in Pittsburgh.
