Portable Oxygen Concentrator Beeping

Posted by grrranny @grrranny, Sep 6 1:27am

Hubby's new two-day-old POC is making an annoying beeping sound about every 20 seconds and sometimes randomly. It's a Caire Freestyle Comfort. Do any of you have experience with this one? There doesn't seem to be any way to turn the alarm off. When it beeps, it displays a yellow "!" symbol, like there's something wrong -- even when nothing's wrong. Help, please!

Those beeps are irritating. Electrician and I thought a fire sensor was bad but it was a carbon monoxide sensor. Drove me crazier than I already am for days.
Best of luck to you,
Jake

It seems to me if you are getting a "!" sign then it is beeping for a reason that is related to a malfunction. Agree with Leonard..... call the support line. I have two portable machines and neither one beep during use. If it was Medicare provided I would call them as well!

I am 87 years old (female) and losing my hair big time. At the rate, I will be bald soon. Suggestions? Drug to take or not to take?

Thanks, kadalda75. His previous POC didn't beep, either, after he turned off the beep. But there's no turn-off on this one.

Thanks so much, Leonard! We did call Caire this afternoon, and the rep said hubby needs to just use nose breathing. Apparently, he sometimes breathes through his mouth, and that triggers the POC to beep when it doesn't sense the person breathing. I'm not sure that's the whole answer, but we'll keep an eye (or ear!) on it, and see what transpires over the weekend.

That makes sense! Suggestion - if he is unable to nose breath he could use a mask, which I'm sure he would not enjoy! Or......he can put the nasal prongs in his mouth and mouth breath. Much easier but maybe doesn't sound that aesthetic.....but aesthetic is not in question....it's getting enough 02!

You should not turn off the beep! My POC specifically notes that the beep activates when no inhalation is detected. It only delivers O2 with an inhale. I think that's how most POCs work. I have a stationary O2 machine which delivers O2 constantly for use at night.
I breathe in and out through my nose, all the time.

Please do no silence the warning beep! If the machine beeps and gives a warning sign "!" it indicates something is wrong with the 02 delivery system and could seriously compromise your husband's respiratory status. If anything, request a new machine or get one of the more well-known manufactured ones! I've ever hear of this Caire Free brand!
