Covid Shot and PMR

Just got the newest Covid shot on Wednesday. OMG yesterday my joints were so stiff, sore, and I had chills. Feeling much better today. I know it’s important to be vaccinated, just wish the side effects were less. Just a heads up what you may expect. Good luck!

Was your therapy for the PMR strictly prednisone? My symptoms are crippling, literally, some patients had very aggressive treatments that gave them total relief. Thanks!

I was only taking Prednisone. The dosage was 10 mg. initially and I tapered off by about .5 mg. every couple of weeks, I think. So sorry that your pain is so intense. Hope you find the right therapy. 🙁

I also believe a covid booster in Oct of 2023 was the cause of my PMR. I was perfectly healthy prior to that vaccine. No vaccines for me anymore. I’ll take my chances.

When did your PMR symptoms start? I had my booster in Nov '23. PMR symptoms started in Jan 24.

Lupus is also an autoimmune disease, like PMR.

I also believe a covid booster in Oct of 2023 was the cause of my PMR. I was perfectly healthy prior to that vaccine. No vaccines for me anymore. I’ll take my chances.

I agree. We were all frightened about the prospect of covid but pmr not great. Feel like 1 and a half yrs of my life were ruined. Just now feeling normal again.

Currently Rheumatologists and those physicians dealing with Autoimmune disease have been instructed by the CDC not give their patients the Covid vaccine. Three years ago I took the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine. It created a "monster" relapse of my Polymyalgia Rheumatica that put me in bed for 6 weeks writhing in pain. I have been unable to walk more than 25' or stand more than 5 minutes since then, and I have been in a wheelchair ever since. Three long life changing years. The absolute travesty to this is the fact, and it's documented, that the CDC took the J & J off of the market back then for 30 days because of the results and reactions. unfortunately for me and many others they put it back on the market after 30 days because not enough of us were sick from the injection.

Such an awful experience for you. Both my gp and rhumetologist said I should get a vax when I was still dealing with pmr. Luckily I didn’t believe them. So frustrating!!!

I’m down to 2 mg of prednisone and hope to be prednisone free in about 5 weeks. So far so good but there will be no more vaccines of any kind for me. I’ll take my chances.

I had weird things happening but didn’t connect it to anything at first. That was within about a week of the Covid booster. I finally started doing my own research and I had every symptom in the book. When I told my dr, he said that’s pretty serious. You need to see a rheumatologist, which I did.

Get mine next month. Covid and flu a week apart. As I have had a few serious respiratory illnesses in the past I would be very silly not to have them. I have a couple of 0.75mg extra pred on standby just in case.

Wow. So sorry that happened. You aren't alone obviously, which I know doesn't really help.

Hello. Can you provide a link or source confirming the CDC's instructions? I cannot seem to find a statement regarding their position on the CDC website nor the RA website. Both seem to be promoting additional shots. For the record, I will not be getting any additional mRNA shots due my reaction from one Moderna shot in 2021 and the fact that I am living with a compromised immune system. TY.

The condition you are living with sounds incredibly difficult. May you continue to improve.
