Does thyroid medication cause cancer? My voice keeps changing.
I’m an old person.

Hello @carnes and welcome to the head and neck group. I know of no cancer caused by thyroid meds. Thyroid meds have been known to cause changes in the voice indirectly as too much or too little can cause many symptoms including voice change. Age is likely the cause here although a mirror or scope check by an ENT should confirm these changes.
I am not a doctor yet have had both cancer and damage to my thyroid. As I age, my voice change is noticeable. It wouldn’t hurt to get checked out as worry is bad medicine.

Thank you, William.
How kind of you to put my mind at ease, somewhat.
I was referring to an article I read.
It’s a first for me to hear that aging can cause changes in our vocal cords, voice.
I also read something about getting through the cells which most meds cannot do, or rather testing. I appreciate your responding. 😊🌷👍🏻

I am a female, 80 yrs old and have been taking thyroid medications since 2012 and never had an issue. I removed my thyroid then but it was not cancer.

Thank you Elizabeth, I do appreciate your info. I feel a little better. I don’t know if I want to know what’s going on with my vocal cords. So not sure I’ll take some sort of non invasive test.

Hello William, I do appreciate your information. I also agree with the things you have said.
I’m not a fan of invasive, such as endoscopy at this point in my life. I seem to do better just trying to stay calm, peaceful and meditation works and connection to a higher power. To me that is God. But I do admit, there are times when I suppose invasive procedures are needed. Thank you so much for responding. Sharon.
