Should I still be coughing up colored phlegm after 9 days post infection? I had Covid Pneumonia before and this is worrisome

stephanieg1, I had COVID pneumonia back in 2022 so I understand. I had COVID again 2023, no pneumonia but a chronic cough with green phlegm, asthmatic bronchitis and sinus infection. I had to do Levaquin (I can't take that one now) and a steroid taper to get rid of the infection....2 rounds to be exact.
Are you having tightness in your chest, hurting and extreme fatigue due to breathing issues? You could be starting up with pneumonia. You can have pneumonia without a lot of coughing. I feel more winded when I have pneumonia, not so much with bronchitis. Bronchitis, with me, is more of a barking type productive cough. I personally would be seen by my primary for an ordered chest x-ray or go to Urgent Care just to be on the safe side.
Also, I would continue to check 02 levels with an Oximeter. You don't won't them much lower than the high 90's. If you get into the 80's you need to seen right away. I also used a spirometer to blow into. The Oximeter & Spirometer are on Amazon and they are very reasonable.
I did not develop pneumonia with COVID the first time until about the 10th day. I can tell immediately if I have pneumonia now. I am more prone to it since having COVID.
I know that some doctors do not get overly concerned about colored phlegm, but, personally I do....especially with COVID.
I am praying for you. I tend to be overly cautious with COVID. Better to be on the safe side with lung issues. Prayers & Blessings...
I still have the cough three years after Covid infection
I still have a cough after covid and mild pneumonia. Covid was 4 weeks ago. I cough but no phelm. Just a dry cough.
Hey cookiepic, Praying for you.
You can cough for quite a while after having COVID pneumonia and get winded easily. Once my bronchitis cleared up, my pneumonia cough was a dry cough and my chest hurt with it. Does that sound like you? I was beyond exhausted with it for quite a while. I had to learn to pace myself with simple things for about 3 months. I still battle Long Covid with fatigue....but not as severe as it was with the first time I contracted it in 2022 & then in 2023. It takes time to get over it for some people....others it is no more than a bad cold.
I am so sorry you are battling this ugly virus. Hugs & Prayers & Blessings...
Thank you for answering my post. The cough is dry and chest dies hurt some. I am a person with anxiety so that doesn't help. I sit and keep taking my oxygen level which has been around 93. Sometimes it goes up to 95. I considered my covid to be mild. I only had a fever for one day. No sore throat but very fatigued for the first 4 or 5 days. I went to the ER on the 5th day with my stomach not feeling right. I'm also in a flare with gastritis. They did numerous test to ease my mind. One being a ct scan with contrast. All was good. Only thing chest xray showed mild pneumonia in the lower lobes which was what was causing my funny stomach feeling. They gave me an antibiotic for 5 days. So I'm about a month out and still have the cough. No wheezing or rattling sound. Just a dry cough that's feels like a tickle in my throat. Did you have a check xray and if so get a recheck on it?
Yes, I did get a recheck on the first round of COVID in 2022 as I had double pneumonia. Even though lungs were clear a few days later after being on antibiotic, I was still very winded and my chest hurt. It may be worth your while to get your chest x-rayed again. Blessings & Prayers.
Thank you. I intend to go on Monday to get a recheck. God bless
cookiepic, Good! Keep me posted please. Blessings & Prayers.....
I couldn't go for recheck on xray as they said 5 to 6 weeks after and l was only 4 weeks. Hope to go next week. If l can ask you a question. I know you had double pneumonia and l had mild pneumonia but did you find cough and taking a deep breath had like a sore feeling in your chest for awhile. Like l said I'm 4 weeks out from being diagnosed. God Bless
