Covid Shot and PMR

Posted by susanew @susanew, Aug 30 6:00am

Just got the newest Covid shot on Wednesday. OMG yesterday my joints were so stiff, sore, and I had chills. Feeling much better today. I know it’s important to be vaccinated, just wish the side effects were less. Just a heads up what you may expect. Good luck!

No more Covid shots for me I believe that’s what started my PMR. I’m taking my chances with the virus if I get it.

I have been sick since March 2021 when I got the first shot.

I also believe a covid booster in Oct of 2023 was the cause of my PMR. I was perfectly healthy prior to that vaccine. No vaccines for me anymore. I’ll take my chances.

Currently Rheumatologists and those physicians dealing with Autoimmune disease have been instructed by the CDC not give their patients the Covid vaccine. Three years ago I took the Johnson & Johnson Covid vaccine. It created a "monster" relapse of my Polymyalgia Rheumatica that put me in bed for 6 weeks writhing in pain. I have been unable to walk more than 25' or stand more than 5 minutes since then, and I have been in a wheelchair ever since. Three long life changing years. The absolute travesty to this is the fact, and it's documented, that the CDC took the J & J off of the market back then for 30 days because of the results and reactions. unfortunately for me and many others they put it back on the market after 30 days because not enough of us were sick from the injection.

Hope your pain goes away and stays away. I contracted PMR after my second COVID vaccination in 2021. It took me a about a year to taper off of prednisone and I've been in remission since Dec. 2022. I, personally, will never get another mRNA vaccination. I know it triggered my PMR.
BTW, I haven't been vaccinated for the past 3 years and had 2 bouts of COVID since then. The first one involved a 2-day fever and lasted about a week. The second bout was last month and was much milder--scratchy throat, lethargy, and a head cold. These are milder symptoms that many of my friends have experienced and they've been vaccinated multiple times. Is this a true vaccine when everyone can still contract COVID and spread it to others?
I feel that your best defense is a good offense. Check out the other threads on this forum that talk about an anti-inflammatory diet. I follow a whole foods, organic, primarily plant-based diet, high in anti-inflammatory foods.

The original mrna shot gave me a heart rate of 159 and afib...are people with Lupus more apt to have reactions?

Fatigue & other symptoms-eventually full blown PMR(ER visit) after 1st vaccine. Down to 1.5 mg prednisone with help from hydroxychloroquin

Did not get PMR from Covid Vaccine, however, I did get PMR after having a severe case of Covid in 2/2020. Also, had the vaccine and became very very sick after the fact, and never would get another Covid Vaccine again. Took 3 1/2 years to be diagnosed with PMR, and have been weaning down from 60 mg of Prednisone since August, 2023. Now at 1 mg of Prednisone and all is well so far. Hope to get totally off the Prednisone in one month. Very happy about the treatment plan to be Prednisone free! PS - Already lost 22 lbs.

Was your therapy for the PMR strictly prednisone? My symptoms are crippling, literally, some patients had very aggressive treatments that gave them total relief. Thanks!

I am convinced that the covid vax caused my pmr too. I also lost a good amount of weight after stopping prednisone and can sleep at night.
