Has anyone in this group undergone surgery for removal? Is it working?
I was recently diagnosed with stage 2 adenocarcinoma lung cancer in my upper left lung. Much to my surprise, the surgeon says he plans to take the whole upper left quadrant of my lungs! I thought they would only take out the 2 spots that were found. Does this sound normal? I know I will survive with missing a part of my lung, but what else should I expect? I was also told that follow up chemo is not likely, but may do so as a preventative.

Shall see if some bluebonnets come your way here in a photo.
I had an air leak and was in the hospital for 9 days instead of the planned 3. It was very upsetting but all is fine now. I didn't have any additional problems due to the leak.
Good to know. I’d rather not take a tube home; one doc doesn’t like the distance from my home back to hosp. in case of an emergency I could run into with the tube and the other doc hasn’t weighed in yet. I’ll go w/ their preference and I’ll have help at home.
I had a robotic lobectomy of my lower left lobe a month ago due to adenocarcinoma also at 75. We are very similar.. I also have long covid which is slowing down my healing and kept me in the hospital for 5 days. A positive attitude is everythng. A good support system also helps. I still have some pain...nerve endings are still healing. You may not have that problem. I hope your surgery goes well. I had a great thoracic surgeon from Mayo and he pointed out the same advantages that your surgeon did. I practiced deep breathing to help me relax the last 2 weeks before. It helped!
Yes, it does sound as if we have similar scenarios going on. I went thru the surgery just over 4 weeks ago. I am still on the road to recovery - will not lie, it is no party! Agreed that a good support system is needed, I find it key to my recovery.
Wishing a speedy recovery to you!
Do you still any pain,Annallee?
Hi, I had my upper left lung removed 7 1/2 years ago. I think it’s a good idea. I Had no chemo also you’re gonna be fine
Hi, I had Robotic surgery also on my upper left lung 7 1/2 years ago it does get better. You’ll be fine.
I've had a double lobectomy, 2/3rd of my right lung (2014), 50% plus on my left lung (2018). I still have spots in both remaining, taken radiation, and spots are "on hold". I feel pretty good, breathing is a little on the short end, at times. I have scans done every three months. I have one in September, if all is the same will change it to one year.
