Drug vacations
I have been on a drug vacation from oral bisphosphonates, which worked very well, for one year. How do you know whether to extend the vacation for a second year or go to something else. My CTX and P1NP numbers appear stable. The something else that would probably be suggested is either Prolia for a Reclast shot. Any advice or suggestions or experiences here?

Serious, what are your CTX and P1NP. And what were they pretreatment.
CTX is 233
something called the alkaline phos is 9.2
What does your endocrinologist say? Is this your first medication for osteoporosis? What is the treatment plan that your endocrinologist has outlined with and for you?
I have been treated for osteoporosis for thirty years. My last treatment was five years of an oral bisphosphonate. My endocrinologist says at some point I should go back to either Reclast or Prolia. So my questions are when do I go back and to what?
Has your doc eliminated a bone builder in you sequencing plan?
The only thing she said was after the vacation of undetermined length was Prolia or Reclast. I am going to see her in a few weeks.
Make sure to ask what her rational is for the sequencing she is recommending.
Hi @serious 30 years is a long time! Could you tell us what has your doctor used to treat you during this period? Thank you!
Fosamax, Evista, Risedronate Sodium. i have been lead to believe that although I definitely have osteoporosis, it is well controlled with these medications. the last was Risedronate Sodium that I was on for five years.
Thank you @serious! If your dexa results have been stable during that period with these meds, that is wonderful. Does your doctor use CTX results to determine your "on" or "off" a medication? I'm trying to understand with your current CTX, why reclast or prolia is being proposed.
