What brought you joy today?

If you've been living with cancer for a while, you know it's not all gloom and doom. Where did you find joy today? I'll start:

1. Working in my garden.
2. Meeting my daughter for tea.
3. Home-made pizza for dinner.
4. My spouse (always).
5. Some interesting online discussions.
6. Rereading a good novel.

Yes, "forever meds" for me as well. Instead of feeling sorry for myself over the side-effects, I try to remember how amazing it is to have these available. Both of my primary cancer meds are so new that they weren't even in the Ontario drug formulary yet when I was diagnosed in 2021.

That’s amazing! I agree about side-effects. Beats the alternative.

In 2011 the first immuno- drugs ( those ending in “mab” ) were introduced and there were two. At the current time, there are some 60 for all kinds of cancers, and some 1200 are in trials. ( I got this from a video put out by I think Harvard medical school). This means in any given year a new one could become available for someone where none existed before. So much progress is being made in this field, and it really is the future of cancer research and treatment.

Dogs are the best! Their unending love and support and appreciation for any minute you spend with them is unique to canines. Not to downplay the comfort of a cat purring on your lap though.

Taking an ice cream cake to a friend who was just diagnosed (for the second time) with breast cancer. Her face lit up and so did mine.

I am on forever meds too. I usually don’t even think about it, just grateful as you are. Mine is lung cancer. I enjoy reading these notes and puppy photos.

Today's joy: my eggplants and bell peppers are finally coming in, and my tomatoes are still booming (Ontario, Canada).

These look so good! Especially the eggplant! I love eggplants. My mom used to fry them. She dipped them in egg and flour, season them with garlic salt and fry them in Crisco. They were very tasty!
